    Session Ale Carbonation question

Is the low alcohol in a session ale, mine is at 3%, something that could cause it to be difficult or carbonate. I have followed my regular carbonation schedule and it has produced a very flat beer. I normally leave my beers at 25-30psi for two days in my kegerater and then drop the pressure to...

    Brewing with sage

Anyone ever brewed with sage? I w thinking of doing a winter ale with it but not sure how much to use and when to add it. I am probably going to add it to the secondary unless I hear otherwise.

I am having trouble carbonating this batch

So I made a small mistake in my mash had it was up at 160 degrees for the 1st 30 minutes of the mash. The beer turned out ok but it is very hard to carbonate. I followed my normal carbonation method but the beer was still not carbonated. Could this be because of the high mash temp?

    Rice Hulls and Pumpkin Question

Hello all, I have been brewing all grain for about 6 years now and I have brewed my last two batches and had horrible efficiency. The last two batches have had rice hulls and pumpkin in the mash. I have never used rice hulls before or Pumpkin in the mash. Do they have any kind of effect...

    Yeast nutrient...anyone use it?

Ironically I posted this thread, the information has been great, and I forgot to add the yeast nutrient to both stages of the process of making both these starters. They are doing good at both stages but I would have liked the added insurance of having the yeast nutrient in the batch. I think...

    Yeast nutrient...anyone use it?

Thanks for the input. Does the amount of nutrient matter? Can you use to much? When do you add the nutrient in the process of making the starter?

    Yeast nutrient...anyone use it?

Does anyone use yeast nutrient in their starters or in the carbon for fermentation? I thought I had read that you should use it and it has been awhile since I made a starter. I can't remember when to add the nutrient. Is it even necessary? I am trying to grow enough yeast for a 32 gallon...

Alternative Grain Beer Rye God?! RYE?!?

This looks like a great recipe. I've only made a rye from extract before and I am going to try this.

    Noob yeast questions

Here is a pic of two fermenters with the same beer and same yeast after 10 days in the Primary. The left I used a 1000ml starter and in the right I just used the pitchable tube. You can see residue on the right. The final product was similar but the one with the starter was noticeably cleaner...

    Simple hop strainer assembly

I have been using this for about a year now for all my brewing on my all grain system. It works great. I build the one that is near the top of the thread with the 4" PVC fitting and there lengths of rod coming out the sides and the large hose clamp around the neck.

How many gallons of homebrew in 2011?

I am brew 10 gallons at a time on my all grain system and year to date is 9 batches but I am going to brew one more this week. That is a total of 100 gallons. My buddy that I brew with brewed 3 times on his 10 gallons system he got in October. We split the beer we make. Each of us takes 5of...

    Keg Force Carbing Methods Illustrated

Now that I am reading this thread I have a question about the length of the beer line. Should it be 5ft or 10ft? What do you prefer? Mine ad very short right now and I realize that is probably why I have foam issues with my beer. What length do you all recommend?

    acetylaldehyde and my ruined life!!!

Yes I have had great success with leaving beer in primary for 7-10 days then tacking to a secondary. I now have a filter so I am going to try and skip the secondary step and see how that goes.

    Cleaning my Cartridge filter

Just bought and used a keg to keg cartridge filter at is 3 micron filter. It is not a carbon filter. Can I just run water through it meg to keg to clear out left over beer from previous filtration? Any ideas or links would be great, thank you.

    Plate chiller question

I have used a plate chiller for the last two batches that I brewed. I used to use an immersion copper chiller and I was used to seeing the cold break drop out of the wort before I transferred to the fermenters. Where does the cold break go when using a plate chiller? Does it go into the...

    Rootbeer

I would love another more modern recipe. I have found some fairly complex recipes and I really like the simplicity of the one you posted. I am assuming it turns out good? Do you worry about the sassafras root being harmful at all? Does this recipe give a fairly pronounced rootbeer bite or...
