    nut brown help

Would you like to expand on this some more? I have NEVER heard this ANYWHERE before. In fact, I've read that most commercial yards plant new stock something like every 7-10 years. I do agree with your statements about cascades as flavor hops and not bittering hops for sure.

    Hop Drying Calculations?

Where was that thread with the calcs to figure the proper dry weight based on the orignal (wet) weight? From what I remember, it was approximately 22% of wet weight...based on drying to 10% moisture...but I'm not sure. Help anybody? Thanks

Fermented out in 3 days, wow!

As I understand, a refractometer does not work on (fermented) beer...only on unfermented wort. You still need a hydrometer to determine final gravity. I have learned over the last year and a half that leaving beer in primary will not hurt in any way. As others have said, leaving the beer on...

    Homebrewing too popular???

Whatev. I don't think anyone should show up to brew meetings unless their beer was transported via fixed-gear bicycles. While wearing flannel and tight pant. And Ray-Bans. At night.

Help...made a wit...10 days in primary...keg now or leave it?

So I brewed ten gallons of wit. Usually I'll just leave my brews in primary for at least two weeks and keep an eye on them. I'm leaving out of town for 5 days today...and let's just say that the wife is much less interested in beer than I am so...I'm worried about temp control in the house...

    Bad rhizomes?

My willamette were very fussy growers...even a one year old transplanted crown did not grow very well. Cascade was also slow the first year. One of my willamettes that died this year I replanted and it still didn't come through. We also have a cool year this time around...temps here in...

Is it too late to plant hops?

I planted some of mine in late May last year. Temps were already over 100. Two sprouted w/in 24 hours. They did struggle a bit with the heat though. I believe I shaded a few of them with old window screens propped up on the ground. Now this year I've got really strong plants growing very well.

    2010 Hops Gardens

^^^ Don't be too upset over the Willamette...mine did almost nothing the first year...and took longer than everything else to start growing. That is unless its really dead.

    Hoppy beers...to keg or bottle?

So i'm a kegging noob, have only kegged one beer before. Is there any disadvantage to kegging highly hopped beers? Will hop aroma dissipate more quickly when kegged?

    Ambient/Spontaneous Fermentation

you know guys, on a brewing network podcast, a brewery in belgium stated that their brewery was out in the country...and found that this was much less ideal than being in the city where wild yeast/bacteria were much more concentrated/better for making sour beers. so maybe there is no...
