Brewery Build - Single Tier HERMS

Yup, we ended up skipping that. Didn't see much value in it at the end of the day. Another Update: We recently spent some time making some adjustments. We had found our electrical was in fact backwards on a switch (well we had the switch turned the opposite way in the control panel so what we...

    Water Filter Setup

Thanks for the heads up - looks like there are several (vinyl or zinc models) - closest at Lowes appears to be model # 05VGF

Ebenezer's Elation (Holiday Ale) Recipe - Briess - anyone have it?

So I misplaced the recipe card from Briess that was in an older issue of BYO. I had hoped to brew this recipe this weekend and will wing it based on what I remember BUT it would be great if anyone knows the origin or has a copy of the recipe they'd be willing to share. My guess is the recipe...

Brewery Build - Single Tier HERMS

Yes it's 1/2 inch soft tubing - we had a coil of it from our HERMs coil so we used pieces of it for the sparge arm as well. Best guess looking at it they are around 1/8" bit... but you might just start small, run water through it and see what it does for rate and either add more holes or enlarge...

Brewery Build - Single Tier HERMS

1/2" copper tubing. Hole size I'd have to double check as I don't remember - I'll try and remember to do that tomorrow and post. As for solder - we didn't bother worrying about it and just used normal lead-free solder.

Brewery Build - Single Tier HERMS

Sorry all - haven't been on here in a while due to so much going on. And sad to say, haven't brewed in months. Hoping to put an end to all of that BS and get back to enjoying some homebrew in the next few weeks. Shelves sound like a great idea. The only thing you'll want to keep in mind is...

Brewery Build - Single Tier HERMS

The burners need air - without enough air they tend to be weak flames. In our case, just small blue tips (tiny!) but as soon as we lifted up the keg tray with the bolt head the flames grew to full size. We've still not fixed it on our rig but plan to just put spacers between the main frame body...

Brewery Build - Single Tier HERMS

We did end up drilling out the brass orifice that screws into the front of the burner because we're using propane not NG. There is a drill guide here on HBT if you search for it, think Kladue might have been the one who posted it but can't remember. We started small and gave it a try until we...

Brewery Build - Single Tier HERMS

No problem and glad you found it useful. Feel free to hit me up with questions. I'm trying to remember all the specifics I didn't take notes on as others ask - whatever I can do to help! Love seeing everyone's new builds and of course hearing about them in action, producing more brew! We've...

Does it Exist? 3/8" Female Flare Elbow for Banjo Burner

They aren't the easiest to find. The one we found was from john102561 user on eBay. He sells/sold mostly HVAC / refrigeration parts so you might check those areas or call up some shops nearby. The description for the part was: Brass Swivel Elbow 3/8" Male x Female Swivel Flare Nut Item#...

Brewery Build - Single Tier HERMS

We've had a few batches through it - lack of being able to consume so much beer & available time to brew (brew days are a few hours longer now) have hindered large production #s. But it is nice and we've enjoyed brewing with it. As I've noted a few times - we are still tinkering with getting our...

Brewery Build - Single Tier HERMS

Meant to wrap this up and post it months ago but got busy and never got around to it. Spent last night wrapping it up. Here's a write-up on the whole build, links to our parts list spreadsheet, dimensional drawings, explanations on some of the steps we took, etc. Hopefully this helps...

Brewery Build - Single Tier HERMS

They work alright. In all honesty we unbolt the kegs so we can take them out to the gravel near the driveway to clean the kegs out. Mostly because of the electrical and the fact that the frame isn't painted yet so we don't want to hose it down. They are nice for lighting burners though I can...

Brewery Build - Single Tier HERMS

Have not tasted the Brown Porter yet - actually let it condition for a bit longer than originally planned. Hoped to bottle it last weekend but something came up, might end up putting it on tap soon and then bottling some as well. We'll see. I have a few photos of the inside guts of the control...

Brewery Build - Single Tier HERMS

Sorry folks - work has been just crazy lately and I've hardly been on HBT. Like stated before - I'd adjust how much space there is between the tippy tray and the top of the frame - allowing more oxygen into the burners (we've got a work around just sticking a bolt head in to tip it up but...

Brewery Build - Single Tier HERMS

Hoping to get some work done on our 'documentation' this weekend. Spent today brewing instead though:) batch #2 on the system - getting in the grove. Didn't get around to fixing the issues we had but wanted to brew ... so we did! Blonde & Kolsch on tap, porter in the fermenter.

Critique This Recipe - Brown Porter

Brewery Build - Single Tier HERMS

Unfortunately no we haven't gotten around to troubleshooting everything. We opted to hit up a local father's day brewfest last weekend :) Hopefully over the next few weeks we'll figure out at least the wiring piece of it as we're considering brewing the second batch over the 4th of July...
