J.W. Lees Harvest Ale (Barley Wine) All-Grain

I mashed at a low temp (149) for about an hour and a half and boiled for 3 hours. I pitched on top of a yeast cake from an ESB that I had just bottled while this was boiling away. It truly is a magnificent beer from the brewery, and by far the best beer I've made. I'm getting ready to make it...

J.W. Lees Harvest Ale (Barley Wine) All-Grain

This is the best beer I have ever made, and one of the best beers I've ever tasted. We just drank the last beer at a tasting party where more than 25 very nice beers (think Avery Anniversary I PA, several aged Sierra Nevada's 30th Anniversary beers, Dogfish Head, some rare Stone beers, etc)...

AG - Old Helicon Barleywine 2006

Speaking for myself: I brewed a JW Lees Harvest Ale clone and in my research I read that Barleywines need buscuitiness and that is developed by a longer boil. Boiling longer also helps drive up the gravity/ABV.

Here I am! So glad that you are! Wichita, KS

Hello from Emporia, I'm posting here to catch some other KS brewers. Sorry that this is a bit off topic. Here in Emporia, we have a brewing get-together once a year, but there's a big lack of camaraderie and sharing among brewers the other 364 days of the year. I've heard similar sentiments...

    CPC Quick Disconnects for CO2?

I linked to the wrong ones there. Mine are gray, so I wasn't sure if they were just for liquid, which is what they were used for before I got them. I've been using mine for CO2 with no problems though.

    Baltic Porter Dry Hop?

I bottle from the keg with the BMBF I get the carbonation where I like it. That's good to know about the hop aroma fading quickly. I think I might dry hop 5 gallons and leave the other 5 like it is. Any suggestions on what type of hop? I'm a big fan of Perle's aroma but I'm not sure if it...

    WTB: Magnetic stirrer and plate

Second that. It's not tough and it's kind of fun to make all those yeasties with something you made.
