New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Just had both versions of Alvarado X Trillium single hop 586 West Coast and Hazy, both were awesome but the West Coast version was insane, lets hope it gets a good name ;)

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

While I would never boil with the latches attached, I normally boil with the lid slightly on (probably 3/4) otherwise I never hit 0.5 gallon boil off with no lid. Anyone else have similar results?

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

Thanks for the suggestions on wort clarity, I've used whirlfloc @ 15 and personally haven't seen much a of difference. Anyway, Cheers!

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

Having a hard time getting clear wort during the mash while using the anvil pump and recirculating. Running approx. 0.032 in crush which is decently fine, any suggestions? Cheers!

    Shawn's Basement Keezer Bar Build

Awesome, thanks for the update! One last thing, did you fill the space between the lid of the magic chef and your wood countertop? Maybe with a silicon caulking? When I originally had a slab of wood on the top I was worried that it would let cool air escape because of the plastic ridges that are...

    Shawn's Basement Keezer Bar Build

I saw your link for those struts and would be awesome if you could post a follow up photo of how you installed them. That was my main concern with trying to build one of these. If i could pick your brain further... How has pouring been with the towers in relation to foam and temperature of the...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Judging by your user are you from Southern California? For hops I use YVH, but for everything else I can't recommend Windsor HBS enough. They have pretty much everything you're looking for with a fantastic and resourceful staff.

    Shawn's Basement Keezer Bar Build

I've been looking to do something similar with my Magic chef. Bought the Home depot butcher block (forgot the brand name) that was big enough to fit it but didn't go through with it because of how heavy it was. Are you worried about the hinges for the lid not being able to take the weight...

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

Will do! thanks again for the input, ill go down to -3 or -4 (0.033 and 0.028 respectively) next time. Also the "ball valve" i mentioned was the one on the anvil. I just found it was easier to do that than the pump. Next brew day ill give some results. Cheers!

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

    1) My pre-boils are bang on everytime without squeezing anything. 2) I open the ball valve maybe a little less than half way to cut down on pump speed. 3) I ask for my crush at -2 (they use the SS crusher) at my LHBS which is 0.039 in. 4) I'm maybe sticking my paddle in there a little deep but...

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

Just to clarify with folks getting good efficiency using a bag, are you using the bag in the malt pipe or just the bag alone? Another brewday in the books with 64% efficiency... really hoping to get in the 70%+ range. Full volume, fine crush, stir every 15 minutes, re-circulation pump, bag +malt...

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

Anybody have experience maxing out the foundry in terms of its grain weight recommendations? Looking to put in 8 lbs (the most recommended for the 6.5) but make a 3 gallon batch rather than a 2.75. My total water would be in the neighborhood of 4.5 gallons, not sure if ill have spill over or not.

Czech Amber Lager 13P Polotmavy / Notch Inspired / Czech Amber

Doing my first step mash on the foundry for a Czech pale right now. 145/158/168. Thanks for the suggestion!

German Pils Bo Berry Pils (West Coast Pilsner)

Here's that last batch, a little over 3 weeks out since grain. "Pils Americana" 2:2:1 Medusa, Zappa, Sabro, about 17.5% flaked rice. Super lime-y character that is definitely dominated by Sabro, I don't get any coconut character that i always hear of. 60% hops where in the dry hop while the...

German Pils Bo Berry Pils (West Coast Pilsner)

Yes! I'm going to give this a go next batch. I just made another batch to where my lager yeast character is non existent due to a good d-rest and substantial dry hop. Though as the beer has gotten better body character from lagering the hop character is starting to fall. I just invested in a dry...

Hoppy Pils - But Which Hops?

Check the Socal Pils thread, many examples on what you're trying to do. Just made a Pils w/ some Rice and Zappa, Medusa and Sabro, highly recommend, super lime-y and crushable.

Czech Amber Lager 13P Polotmavy / Notch Inspired / Czech Amber

Wow thanks for all the info, fantastic. I run an Anvil system at the moment so step-mash/decoction shouldn't be an issue and look foward on trying a step mash process on my next lager along with all the other good tips you have. Thanks! Also, I can't say that Trillium wasn't a highlight of...

Czech Amber Lager 13P Polotmavy / Notch Inspired / Czech Amber

Lucky enough to have visited Boston and tried a few Notch beers before COVID and was very pleased. Thought I track down some more of their offerings and came across this. Notch posted the malts, hops, and yeast used in their recipe below. My LHBS didn't have Carabohemian nor Munich II in stock...
