    Starsan beer

So first off I was drinking while brewing, which usually isn't a problem, but my American Brown is a bit big. Anyway after cooling the wort I sanitized my Ale Pale with about a liter of diluted Starsan. Between watching a movie, drinking, and talking to my wife I poured my wort right on top of...

    Looking at going AG

A while ago I found a thread that talked about the size of coolers you could use for 5 or 10 gal batches. I have looked everywhere but it must be lost to the archives. Anyone have any information on this? Also I have heard that the standard rule is 1 quart of water per pound of grain. Is...

    Marzen without temp control

I need to brew a Marzen for local competition however I don't have a lager fridge. I wanted to try and use SF Lager Yeast and do the "fermentor in a tub of water with a shirt over it" method. Any advice?

    Am I going nuts?

I brewed a great Special Bitter (Brewing Classic Styles page 119), very malty, good color, lightly carbonated to style...all that. Then about a week and a half into drinking it I get a very astringent taste. Almost like rubbing alcohol in my beer. I am down to half a keg and this taste has...

    Using Rice

I was listening to the Brew Network Sunday Session podcast and Doc was talking about a Belgian Tripel that turned out very smooth, but very alcoholic in no small part to using rice. He said he used ground up Uncle Ben's minute rice in his mashtun. I was wondering if anyone else has used this...

    Accidental boil

I was steeping grains for my brown ale and it was holding at around 155 degrees, and I guess my stove was a little hotter than I thought and when I came back after 10 minutes or so the water was slightly boiling. What will this do to the overall taste of the finished product?

    Infected in the Keg?

This is my second batch I have kegged. The first batch went great, it was a porter that had great texture, mouth feel, and was complimented by a Sr. Homebrewer. Now I have had my next batch (Imperial Stout) in the keg for just over a week and it is getting an off flavor. I am not sure how to...
