    German Pils Recipe

So if I were to follow the median here, maybe I should do something like: 1 1/2 oz Hallertau Hops 4.5%(Boiling) 60 mins .75 oz Hallertau Hops 4.5% 15 mins .75 oz Hallertau Hops 4.5% 2 mins Comments welcome...

    German Pils Recipe

Thanks, that is all very helpful. I plan to boil about 3.75 gallons. Where does that get me with hop quantities? And RRBBGG27013, I actually don't like american commercial lagers, but do like Bitburger, Stella, St. Pauli, Pilsner Urquell etc (in something like descending order), though I...

    German Pils Recipe

I was given the following recipe, and I'm wondering if anyone has any comments. In particular, I wondering whether this might be really hoppy. Also curious about OG and FG if anyone can figure that out. This will be my first lager, and fourth batch total. 6 lbs Dry Ex Light Malt Extract...

What advice would you have for yourself back when you started out?

I am currently waiting on my first batch, so this is all still very fresh for me. I would say: 1. Brew a quick beer first. I choose Scottish 90/- and regret it. I believe a lower gravity ale would be the way to go. 2. Watch your beer as much as you like, but don't waste your time...

    Ultimate Beginner Kit?

I like glass because you can see what is going on, which is part of the fun. It is a mystery if you use plastic.

    Ultimate Beginner Kit?

I thought this looked pretty good: Deluxe 2 Stage Brewery (2 Glass) with Organic Beer Kit - HBK4D I got the cheaper set up, but wish I had bought this. It looks like it has all essentials.

    Help? Bottling etc.

I have a batch (my first home brew) of organic Scottish 90/- shilling ale from a kit – see ingredients below -- that spent 8 days in the primary at about 62.5 degrees and has now been in the secondary for 11 days at 63-65 (starting at the lower end, and moving to the higher end of the range upon...

    Fermentation - 90/-

Well after receiving this advice, I moved it to a warmer spot (69 degrees) and swirled it a bit. I could see parts of the bottom debris rising several inches. No great change that is visible to the eye, but I'll check it with the hydrometer in a day or two. I will be out of town for eight days...

    Fermentation - 90/-

No, I didn't use a starter. Its funny, but everything I previously read suggesting a primary of 4-7 days, then a longer secondary, but everyone in this thread seems to do the opposite and that apparently may be what I did wrong.

    Fermentation - 90/-

    Ok, thanks! Happy Thanksgiving.

    Fermentation - 90/-

When you say "swirl the fermentator", do you mean I should put a spoon into the fermentator and stir the bottom up a bit?

    Fermentation - 90/-

I have a question regarding my first batch of home brew, which is currently in process. It is an organic Scottish 90/- shilling ale from a kit. The yeast is white labs edinburgh yeast. It had an OG of 1.066 (after adjusting for temperature - 1.065 at 70 degrees) when I put it in the...
