    Question about Wheat Beers

I just brewed my first wheat beer yesterday and wow that thing took off quick. So what kind of filtering are you talking about? Just enough to get big particles out or are you talking enough to make it clear? Personally I'm not a fan of filtered wheats... that's just me though

Yet another 'Did I ruin' thread

I pitch around 80-90 if I'm in a huge rush. Don't worry. Yeast are hardy little buggers.

I keep looking at 1 liter blue swing tops... I just wish I had the cash to get a good 10 cases of those.

    I'd like some feedback

Personally I love Cascade hops... My oatmeal stout has 4 oz of hops (all low AA so not a overly bitter beer). 2 oz of which where Cascade... Depends on how bitter you're wanting to go.

    Whats the Key?

What I believe is key is developing an understanding of what each ingredient provides to the beer and a willingness to experiment.

    Super Steelers American Amber Ale

My group of friends wouldnt touch those bottles. I need to put those on my bottles just so they dont drink my beer at parties.

Ever made 'beer' with out hops?

If you dont want something overly bitter use hops that have a low acidity. If you did something like .25oz of Cascade hops for 60min and .25oz at 5 min and .5oz at 2 min you'd get a lot less of the bitterness from them and more of their aroma/flavor. That'd give you around 9-10 IBU, which is not...

    Whats this?

Typically those (IIRC) are basically just sugar. I am pretty sure the coopers/mr.beer kits come with boost sugar. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Ever made 'beer' with out hops?

The local 'microbrew' where I live (it's in quotations because their beer is more bmc like) makes a beer without hops, it tastes like bud lite with sugar added.

    Newby Question

I personally feel that glass will last longer as long as you dont drop it.

    Newby Question

Here is a good read on secondaries. It's entirely up to you. It's not necessary. There is a lot of debate over glass to plastic carboys, again up to you. I personally love my glass carboy, but it has the potential to break.

    Recipe Kit

The kits I got from them where pretty good. I'd say give it a shot.

    Newby Question

Just to clarify on the timeframe I use: I use that on smaller beers that dont need excessive aging. My Schwarzbier (lager) has been in a fermenter for the last monthish and will remain so for another few weeks or so.

    Newby Question

Yes, the airlock is there solely to keep outside bugs where they belong, outside of your beer. I personally like to do 2 weeks in the primary fermenter and 2 weeks in a secondary. Just FYI a bottling bucket is strictly for the use of when you're bottling. I wouldnt recommend it as a fermenter.

What does oxygenated beer taste like?

While I've never had oxygenated homebrew, I've had oxygenated BMC and it tasted like cardboard used to wipe Satan's anus.

    Breiss Pilsen Extract?

I'd probably use it as a good base and add some items that bring the color up just a tad. Maybe make it your base, then use the golden to bring up color along with some nice specialty grains.
