    Hops have stopped growing

I have a similar problem with my 2 centinniel plants. Just been staying at about 1 foot high since April. But the thing is, my 2 cascads right beside them are on schedule, about 10ft high with lots of hop burrs on them. I put a layor of compost and then topped with mulch on top of all 4 at the...

    Successfully Growing Indoors

Yeah, I don't see why anyone would grow hops indoors. 1. hops don't costs THAT much to buy so I don't see how it would be cost effective 2. The only reason people grow pot indoors is b/c it's illegal, hops are legal so why not use the free sun that is outside? Also, if you are going to grow...

    North Carolina Hop Garden

I wonder if centennial prefers it to be the dead heat of summer before it takes off, or maybe they just don't do good here in NC. Last year, the first year, the centennials only grew to about 6ft tall while the cascades had a couple of stalks about 10-12ft long.

    Fresh hops amounts!

Just throw a crap load in there and enjoy the results.

    North Carolina Hop Garden

Yep. The first 2 pictures were taken May 1 (1st is cascade, 2nd is centinnial). Next 3 picturs are of the cascades taken May 19th. The cascades have been growing steady since April, but for some reason the centinnials have not grown more than an inch since the sprouting in late March and...

Hey Brewpirate, nice to see fellow pirate holding it down with a hops garden.

Growing Hops is a great idea if you dont want Aphids in your beer!!

Who cares, most of the hops brewed with the beer so I'm sure it kills everything. The alcohol probably kills any that were dry hopped.

    Whoops!

I think it would probably split into 2 bines where it broke off. You could let both grow or cut one off to have a single bine again.

Show off your 2012 Hops garden!

Here is an update on my garden. The first two are 2nd year cascade hops. They are doing well and growing a few inches a day. The other 2 or 2nd year centinnenials. They look healthy but aren't budging on the growth. Just pretty much sitting there. Don't know what to do to get them going.

My 2nd year hops. 2 cascades and 2 centinnials. Trellis is about 11ft tall, but hope to get twice that by training the bines diagonally up the strings. That's my blackberry bush to the right, and my pile of dirt to the left. Any body need some dirt?

2nd year Centennial has stalled out

It's fine. It's just been cooler weather lately here in the south. Had a warm March, got things kickstarted, then cool weather hit the last couple weeks, cold nights slowed the growth.

    Leaf Diagnosis Needed Please

man, your in Ohio and your 2nd year hops are already 6ft high? How is that? I'm in NC and we've had a warmer than usual March, and my 2nd year hops are only a foot tall at most. I mean, they started sprouting in feburary as soon as it was above 70's during the day. Just don't see how Ohio could...

    North Carolina Hop Garden

Maybe so, but even if I don't get to them daily, I can train them every few days. I'm always out in my yard messing around so it won't be an issue. I feel like once they're on a string, they should continue in that direction on their own until I need to train them to go up the other direction...

    North Carolina Hop Garden

Finally getting around to posting pics of my hops setup. I'm near Fayetteville, NC and these are 2nd year hops. The 2 on the right are cascade and 2 on the left are centennial. They grew okay last year but nothing worth harvesting. I really enjoy seeing pics of everyone's different trellis...

If you are going to grow hops, please do it right

I'm just growing my hops for fun and taking advantage of the free energy the sun is providing to help supply my home brewing hobby. I'm not worried about fertilizing them to a science to maximize my yeild. I might add a little slow release fert at some point when there growing like crazy but...

If you are going to grow hops, please do it right

Yes, but you're assuming I have a big lawn. Actually I do have a big lawn but luckily I do have the well water. But here in NC, centipede grass loves the heat and is very drought tolerant. I have a 2-bin compost pile myself. I end up with a lot of compostable material from my lawn...

If you are going to grow hops, please do it right

I'm not trying to be mean, but if you take pride in how your yard and home looks, having a yard full of clover is only bringing down the value of your home and makes you look lazy, which I'm sure you're not being that your probably out there all the time messing with you garden and hops. So...

If you are going to grow hops, please do it right

Clover may be beneficial, but it looks like ****. No one wants a yard full of clover. dandelions and onions are green, why not have a yard full of them? Plenty of my neighbors do. If your grass turns brown in the summer it's either a cool season grass or it needs to be watered. Planting clover...
