HLT = Hot Liquor Tank, that is used to heat up the water going into the MLT=Mash Lauter Tun.
There is a lot of talk about how to acquire kegs.
To be completely legal you should buy the keg from somewhere like Sabco etc.
Others "find" kegs at junk yards or other places.
So I decided to put it in a secondary with the coffee b/c I am harvesting, washing and reusing the yeast and didn't want the coffee flavor in my next batch.
Guess that is the cool thing about this hobby. You can adjust to needed requirements
I have the same kit waiting for the coffee.
What are the benefits of moving it to a secondary before adding the coffee?
Why can't I just add it to the primary and wait another couple of weeks?
I have a stout with Wyeast #1768 English Special Bitter in primary right now.
I plan on after racking to secondary putting another batch on top of the yeast.
Any suggestions?
I am thinking about an Irish Red but concerned with the darkness of the stout affecting the yeast.
Thanks,
Fly
I have ordered 3 times from them and been impressed.
If you have questions about a kit don't hesitate to call them.
They are very helpful and endure noob questions.
I have brewed NB's dunkelweizen and it turned out great.
Now I have their AG Irish Stout bottle conditioning and it tasted...
I will be using the 1768 in a coffee stout.
What I am wondering is what would be a good wort to throw on top of the yeast after I have racked to secondary.
Any good idears?
I just bought one gallon at Whole Foods.
And I may be crazy but I am going to try to harvest yeast from NB's Abbey and see how it turns out.
CvilleKevin used several English ale yeasts and Hefe yeasts.
I am open for suggestion/correction.
I am noob here so FWIW...
A soak over night in clear ammonia/h2o solution takes any and every label off except for the Sierra Harvest Ale 20oz's (some kinda funky, foamy glue on them)
I rinse thoroughly, set to dry and ready for sanitation later.
