    Choosing A Conical Fermenter

Why do you say that? While not in cylidro-conicals I've fermented in plastic for years. Is there something specific to plastic conicals that makes you say that?

    Brew Stand Fails!

I've got a pump, so the three levels wasn't intentional. It almost be and required though. When I was mashing out the power went out. It was out for 3 hours.

    Rain barrel as fermenter

LHBS should be willing to give you their empty 15 gallon ones. I picked up two more yesterday. My LHBS isn't nice enough to wash them for me though. Spring for a wrench if you end up using them though. Using a screwdriver is a PITA.

    Brew Stand Fails!

My current stand consists of what I can find lying around to sit stuff on. It's a pain, but it works for now.

Supplying power -- 3-prong range outlet?

Is it still considered a sub-panel if its a plug in device?

Supplying power -- 3-prong range outlet?

Say the spa panel is mounted on the brew stand and connected to a pre-1996 50a range outlet (H-H-N). Is it possible/safe/legal to drive another grounding rod to connect the spa panel earth ground. You wouldn't be connecting the neutral and grounding wires at any point and you'd have a true 4...

    Is the grain any good?

Still looks and feels right. Dry and unmilled. It's all in plastic bags and in a Tupperware container. I've opened a few up and didn't see any bugs in there. I think I'll just brew a batch and see what happens...

    Is the grain any good?

I purchased a bunch of grain about 18 months ago. I ended up not using it all before I left on deployment. It ended up in a non climate controlled storage unit for a few months there toward the end. There is about 25-30 lbs left and I'd hate to have to trash it all... Think it's any good?

Too close of a call for my liking.

I don't and didn't. Well, I didn't intentionally. It's what they had and I thought it was similar to the one I had before. This one had different legs on it. Grouperdude, the legs on the tall one look like they are the same material and thickness of the one that fails me today. Do you do ten...

Too close of a call for my liking.

New turkey fryer didn't hold up to the weight of 16 gallons of water. Luckily I had just started heating my strike water or I'd be at the hospital right now. Any suggestions on a new beefier burner set up?

    Electric brewing on a budget

If you already have a chiller and a burner you could still get a pump and have a two tier RIMS system for about $500.

Get the freezer and a temp controller.

    Alcohol purchase waiver?

Lots of good ideas here on how to make it less than easy for them to do. What ever you do make sure you vocalize it to them some how. It's not going to change if you just stop patronizing their store.

How long is too long for a March Pump?

Overkill yes, but it's what I have available at the moment. I could try the space heater idea, but I'd like to keep it at as constant a temp as I can, and I don't have another temp controller handy. Anybody care to venture a guess as to what temp a 40-60 what bulb in a 70 qt cooler would hold?

How long is too long for a March Pump?

Temp sensor is built in. As long as the pump doesn't lose it's prime the element should be good. Then again if the pump lost it's prime when I wasn't paying attention to it it would fry more than a $12 heating element. I might wait until this weekend where it can be monitored more closely.
