Old Better Bottle with maybe year old sediment.. toss or keep?

thanks for the quick response. It looks like it's coming clean in PBW. I'm going to disassemble the valve and check that out as well.

Old Better Bottle with maybe year old sediment.. toss or keep?

I found an old ported Better Bottle with sediment from maybe around a year in it. I guess it was an old fermentation and the bottle had never been cleaned. Should I use it or toss it? I have cleaner. I just wasn't sure how much the plastic would absorb over a year's time and maybe make the...

    Grrr.... Broke my Carboy!

he broke a 6 gal carboy. I'd never recommend a 5 gal replacement for 5 gal batches.

Using a pasta maker to mill grain.

could do that as a homebrewer too. I've seen a 3 bucket system. The top bucket holds the grain. The second bucket has a hopper inside with the mill mounted at the bottom, using a motor to push the mill. The bottom bucket collects it w/a hole cut on the side for the grain to escape once...

Holy Kegs Batman! (When it rains it pours)

It should be noted that a restaurant (regardless of the franchised name) doesn't own kegs so they can't just get rid of them or sell them. I could care less who does what with kegs and how they get them, but yes, legally there is a problem obtaining kegs that way. As I posted above, I got a...

Holy Kegs Batman! (When it rains it pours)

contacted the local brewery to see what kegs they're getting rid of to see if I could buy them. I gave them a price for 2 and they want me to stop by and take a look. I already have a keg, obtained from a friend.

    Had to throw bucket out...

I've had the same 2 buckets for 10 years, which were my primaries when I first started, now are my cleaning buckets. With the correct mixture of pbw to water OR starsan to water, you shouldn't have any issues. Although I don't typically soak anything overnight as it's not needed. Just a...

    Cleaning and Sanitizing

I just pulled off my SS braided hose w/coupler/ball valve/bulkhead setup from my MLT cooler and dismantled it. I cleaned religiously after ever batch, but I can't recall ever taking apart the bulkhead. There was some serious nasty crap in the threading of the nipple and on both o-rings (each...

Brew Stand - Build yourself or get someone else to build?

find a server rack from a company going out of business, upgraded, or moving. Flip it on its side, cut or drill if you need to in order to make it work, add casters. Done.

How easy is it to punch holes in a Blichmann pot to go electric?

step bits are easy and quick to use. Most people I hear prefer not to weld due to potential complications due to welding shops that don't normally do work like this. 2 people took welding classes and said they probably wouldn't touch sanitary welding on keggles. Also, weldless allows you to...

How to make a stainless braid for MLT?

dremel tool to cut... needle nose pliers to pull out the plastic tube.. copper pipe with holes drilled in it inserted into the SS braided line to ensure it doesn't collapse on the weight of the grainbed... connected to the coupler inside the cooler via a SS hose clamp.
