    Abbey SMaSH

Local shop had some abbey malt and after a little taste I was intrigued so I'm going to do a SMaSH. Specs look a lot like a mid-range Munich and looks like it should convert itself. It may be over-the-top bready but we'll see. I'm going with Hallertauer for hops and Wyeast Trappist Ale for...

Selling in Metric in the US

We have talked a few times about how much easier metric recipes are to scale and adjust and just in general work with in your head. I was one of those who can't seem to think in metric even though I acknowledge the ease of base-10 math for weights and measures... I was thinking the other day...

    oxyclean residue

When I came back to brewing last year I had to go back to bottling until my CO2 equipment can be rehabbed. I have had a funky flavor in my last brews that was sharp and biting and I think this may be because I have soaked them too long in Oxyclean and not gotten that white residue completely...

    Vail / Avon area pubs

I'm going to be working in Avon, CO the next couple of weeks, can anyone suggest places to drink? Also looking for places to buy beer to take back to the hotel for the late evenings...

    Bell's Kalamazoo Stout

I just had one of these over the weekend and thought it was a great basic stout. We did a mini stout tasting and I thought this was one of the more drinkable and balanced stouts we tried. Any thoughts on a recipe? I'm not really into cloning but would be curious to know what makes this one...

    A-Z Brown Ale

Anybody make the A-Z Brown ale from "Extreme Brewing" by Sam from DFH? It looks like an interesting brew but I'm curious to see some tasting reviews. It seems to me it will come out like a big porter but I'm okay with that... I don't have the book with me but I believe the OG was like 1072...

Maybe a useful toy to some here

A friend that is into building computer controlled interfaces showed this to me and I can just see LOTS of brewing project possibilities... Anyway, just passing it along for the geeky builders among us. ioBridge | Store

    Trouble with Biermuncher's SWMBO Slayer

Had some problems with SWMBO Slayer (my first All Grain) and ended up mashing a little high (around 157) and only getting an OG of 1.040. I'm wondering if it would be out of line with this style to add a lb of sugar to the primary to up the ABV and dry it some? Is this recipe too light to...

    BIAB question

Recent discussions here and at BN have me thinking of trying Brew in a Bag All-Grain to compare to my minimash setup. Given that I have a 32qt brewpot I think I would be very tight on volume with BIAB. Any reason I could not just do a 4 gallon boil (make a concentrated wort) with this same...

    RIS over-hopped

So I have a RIS that I brewed a week ago (partial mash.) I took a hydrometer reading to see if it was done fermenting and as usual took a swig of the sample and the bitterness really reached out and slapped me. Looking back I think I made a couple of errors including adding my extract late...
