American Pale Ale Three Floyds Zombie Dust Clone

Cancel that! The app had actually put my 6lb of DME as a late addition with no time. That was killing it. Had the ABV at 1.66%....haha!

American Pale Ale Three Floyds Zombie Dust Clone

I am brewing this beer tomorrow using the Extract/PM recipe. When I punch all of the recipe into BeerSmith's app I get an IBU of 156!! How is that even possible? This doesn't look like an insane amount of hops.

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Honey Chocolate Porter

Hey there. I'm looking to brew this on Friday night. Is that "American Chocolate" actual chocolate or is that American Chocolate Malt? Thanks! Looks really good! evans5150

    Imperial Stout Imperial Bastard Stout

This is my second year of brewing it and I don't think I'm adding enough yeast. I will try 2 vials next year or at least do a starter. Good experience with it so far! This year I had an OG of 1.096.

1.096 OG stout not fermenting after 14 hours

I will. Mr. Malty has been bookmarked. I will also get into the practice of making starters with bigger beers like this. My next beer is going to be my own Pale Ale recipe and it's a smaller beer but I'll still make a starter with that just for practice. The temp was never an issue as that...

1.096 OG stout not fermenting after 14 hours

Music to my ears, Yooper. Thanks again for the link and the info. I made this brew last year and it was FANTASTIC!! I'm hoping to have it bottled by late February.

1.096 OG stout not fermenting after 14 hours

Thanks for the info. I bookmarked that page. After calculating it says about 3 vials (or 3.4 to be exact.) I have been at the computer in the same room as the beer for the past hour. No bubbles in the blowoff that whole time. Then about 5 minutes ago it started bubbling at a rate of one per...

1.096 OG stout not fermenting after 14 hours

I might be screwed. The LHB isn't open on Sundays and Mondays. It will have to wait until Tuesday. Ugh.

1.096 OG stout not fermenting after 14 hours

I was thinking that. The smack packs act as starters so that wasn't a problem last year. Do you think it will still be sufficient or should I go grab another vial of Irish Ale yeast and pitch that? The soonest I can do that is Tuesday.

1.096 OG stout not fermenting after 14 hours

Hey guys, I brewed up an imperial stout the other night that calls for 1 pound of brown sugar. This is an extract/grain brew. OG measured at 1.096 and it is still there 14 hours later with no signs of fermentation. The yeast said "best by 1.30.11" and I pitched it yesterday which was...

Steep and Boil question - Need advice!

Awesome, thanks. Yeah...I had pretty much planned to soak them for 45 but then saw the directions and began to wonder why. This is only my 10th or so batch of beer so I'm still a little green. Thanks again to both of you! Much appreciated!

Steep and Boil question - Need advice!

Thanks, guys. Appreciate the quick responses! I'm brewing Sunday afternoon so this will help. Walker-san....I have unfortunately already mixed the grains into one bag when I bought them from the store. It would be dang near impossible to unseparate at this point. The crystals are...

Steep and Boil question - Need advice!

Hey guys, I am doing the Imperial Bastard Stout recipe that can be found in the recipe section. I have 2 questions: 1) The recipe calls for the grains to be steeped for 15 minutes. Most recipes I have come across for a stout say 45 minutes. Would I be safe steeping for 30 or 45 minutes...

    Imperial Stout Imperial Bastard Stout

Do you guys think 15 minutes of steeping is enough? I was planning on hitting 30 or 45 minutes. And...what do you think about a 90 minute boil for this recipe to carmelize the sugars a bit more for a toffey flavor?

How much burned extract is too much?

A method that i use when putting in LARGE amounts of LME is this: I take a pot and fill it with hot water from the sink (hottest I can get...but I don't boil it.) I then place the container of LME in the hot water to liquify the extract. It makes pouring it MUCH easierand it liquifies much...

1st Annual Homebrewtalk.com Pay it Forward thread

I'll take the chiller if the 2 ahead of me end up passing. Will is fit in a standard 5 gallon fermenting bucket?

    Way too much evaporation???

I got the recipe from the 150 Clone Recipes book by BYO. It says it is an extract with grain recipe. I steeped the grains for 45 minutes at 164 degrees. Is there a formula that can tell me how much extract I can add to the 5 gallons of water I already have? Could I take 2 or 3 pounds of...

    Way too much evaporation???

I added boiled water to get to 5 gallons. The temp went to 70 degrees this morning and I took a hydrometer reading. Unfortunately, the OG measures at 1.049 and the recipe calls for 1.072. Not sure what went wrong but I'll ferment it as is. I'm sure it will still taste great.

    Way too much evaporation???

I made a Rye Ale extract tonight that called for 4.25 lbs of Light DME as well as 7.5 lbs of various grains, specialty grains, and rye flakes. I boiled 2.5 gallons of water and dumped it into the fermentor. I then steeped the 7.5 lbs of grains in 3.25 gallons of water. After removing both...

    A question about bottling...sort of...

Anyone here every open a 22oz. STORE BOUGHT beer, drink half, cap it with one of your OWN caps and capper, and then open it again a few days later and drink the rest? The reason I ask is because I have a Butte Creek Brewing Company Train Wreck (Barleywine) and don't want to drink the WHOLE...
