    Efficiency issues. Missing OG

I boil off about .75gallons/hr and did so in both cases here. I'll keep you all updated about the crush hypothesis, might not be for a couple weeks judging by my calendar.

    Efficiency issues. Missing OG

Should've clarified that I get my grain and have it crushed at Austin Homebrew Supply. At this point I'm going to do this again, same recipe and process, for a third time but this time with a finer crush, likely run it through the mill twice. 1.030 seems incredibly low

    Efficiency issues. Missing OG

Helloooo Everyone, I know this is common for people just switching to all-grain and I've gone through a lot of the stickies in the all-grain forum and have used the calculators online to get my water levels, etc but 2 times in a row I'm missing OG significantly. Long story short I brewed a...

    Blue Tint in Tap Water?

Thanks everyone. I'm going to get the water looked at per Silver Is Money's recommendation and see what they have to say. I remember this happening, though not as obviously, when we first moved in back in May so this has been happening for awhile.

    Blue Tint in Tap Water?

I don't assume chlorine mostly because theres no smell of it even with the large quantity that you'd have in a bath.

    Blue Tint in Tap Water?

Hard to explain but I filled up my tub for a bath last night and noticed a blue tint to the water. Initially I thought it might be lighting or reflection from some of the blue in the bathroom so I took an empty 5 Gal bucket and filled that up to and took it to a different room. The blue was even...

    Slow Fermentation

I bet you're still having "action" in the chamber just not enough to see bubbles in the airlock. You might even have air escaping from somewhere else. The most rigorous part is definitely the first 24-72 hours but give it more time. Patience is the hardest part.

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

Just finished putting this into the carboy. New all-grain setup for me and missed OG a bit, came in around 1.042? Looks like im losing a lot more water in the process than usual somehow. 4.75 gallons it looks like and used the same measurements as yourself... Tasted and smelled great!

    Trouble Calculating Water Levels

Thanks everyone this is helping and frankly is solidifying my thought that it "doesn't matter too much" as long as things are in the right ballpark and that everything is getting into the boil kettle. I also stumbled across this blog post that helps prove things out a bit...

Looking for a cheap .1g resolution weight scale

You can go to your local headshop and take a look at scales if you want to get hands on, they'll also have weights you can put on to make sure its 100% accurate before buying. A bit risky having them shipped considering how delicate they can be.

    Trouble Calculating Water Levels

Hi Everyone and Merry Christmas!! I'm new to all grain but I plan on doing a 5 gallon batch this weekend and after going through several recipes online I wanted to ask how everyone calculates their mash and boil sizes as I"m having trouble calculating my own. I'll have a 10 gallon kettle and...
