    Inkbird temp controller problem

Ha .. yes, well, 1 month is not confidence-inducing. were it a few years, I'd be OK. I loathe waste and garbage. I like things to last, regardless of the price. "Disposable" usually means I look elsewhere for my products/solutions. Also: How do you wear out a Thermapen? Are the Inkbird...

    Inkbird temp controller problem

At the end of the day, yep, as long as my main complaint in life is that my temp controller can't be trusted with my brews, well, it sure could be worse!

    Inkbird temp controller problem

I'll try. Tested it again and it seems fine. Sunspots? Moon phase? I was severely annoyed and disheartened by the sheer number of complaint threads across the forums when I searched for problems with it. I was also unnerved by the seeming lack of company support. I'd like to see less...

    Inkbird temp controller problem

I just left a slighty unpleasant review on Amazon about the Inkbird ltc-308. I have used this twice. Owned it for a month. I'm only using the heating outlet, with a 45-watt heating wrap, for keeping wine/beer warm in primary fermentation in a cold house in winter. The first time I used...

High Bush Cranberry Wine mk2 2019

Also: The myth that these taste better after a frost is just that: Myth. I've now tasted high bush cranberries from last winter (still on the bush despite being springtime!) and also the berries just now ripening. As well the berries after a frost, etc. If they are ripe, they taste like...

High Bush Cranberry Wine mk2 2019

Very curious how this comes out. I did not "cook" mine, but they did have boiled water put over. I didn't end up with thickening, but "stuff" did show up and make me worry. Yes .. pectic enzyme is our friend. I think maybe more than suggested on the package. Almost cranberry season!

High Bush Cranberry Wine mk2 2019

Hi, so where are you? Curious. As for recipes, the biggest challenge with high bush cranberries is to get them fermenting, as that whatever-it-is compound in them tries to prevent it. I think I "discovered" (that is, learned for myself despite other people already knowing it) is that adding...

    Apple blossom wine?

I'm thinking the same kinda thoughts, looking at this flowering Japanese crabapple we've got. Smells wonderful! I might at least harvest a pint jar of blossoms and freeze them for a mead adjunct. Other than that, I would look to the most basic/prolific of all flower blossom recipes for...

    Elderflower Mead

I haven't yet, but I will similar soon! Might go with wild yeast first, (minus the Campden tab) and finish off with EC1118 if necessary. How did yours come out?

Advice Request: Russian Imperial Stout slow finish and Oak Aging

I've got limited oak experience, so don't ask me : ) .. plus I'm a tad cavalier and waxing experimental (I take my "used" oak stix and put them into a decanter ... I pour kit wine in there and let it sit, then enjoy a port glass of it (or two) with dessert. It helps me discover what oak does...

Advice Request: Russian Imperial Stout slow finish and Oak Aging

Better get to it then ... love to hear your results! Good luck. Oh ... and get some "WineStix" French or Hungarian oak or similar to drop into your secondary. : ) I will be doing that next time for sure.

Advice Request: Russian Imperial Stout slow finish and Oak Aging

Popping in again to say how superb this stout really is. Now late May 2020, my first drink of it was October 2019. Organizing my cellar I confirmed 26 12-oz bottles remain. Black gold! Now sure if I should try my had at replicating this now that I'm doing all-grain, or whether it's much...

Double IPA Still Too active to bottle?

I did ... maybe 4 more days and we get to try one .... so far so good. Cheers!

Advice Request: Russian Imperial Stout slow finish and Oak Aging

I know, huh? This is one of the reasons it's so important for me to get my other beers going better and reliably. Definitely shoved the majority of them up top in the back in the cellar (a basement shower stall repurposed) ... I really look forward to rediscovering them. And as far as too...

Advice Request: Russian Imperial Stout slow finish and Oak Aging

Wifey and I split a 12oz of this RIS at lunch the last two days. It's very good. The carbonation level is actually a tad lower than I might have liked, but it is not too low, really. The reason I'm posting this here today is that I realized that this thread/experience with the RIS is almost...

Double IPA Still Too active to bottle?

OK, so I really need to figure this beer out, and I "think" I have. The gravity is still at or near where it seems to want to stay. But there is yet a persistent ring of bubbles on the upper surface/age. I did swirl lightly, and also place it closer to the wood stove. It is the bubbles, not...

Double IPA Still Too active to bottle?

Wifey's comment: Tastes sweet, but good. I agree with her. So will give it more time. VERY curious what you mean/suggest by "...if really sweet it needs something. Time alone will not help ... " I have a cranberry wine in my other 5 gal carboy ... I'll figure out a "forest of airlocks"...

Double IPA Still Too active to bottle?

Today's hydrometer sample I say is 1.021. I'm not using the wine thief, and planning to just drink it. (when I use the thief is is so I can return the sample) For best hydrometer readings I actually transfer the (beer wine or mead) to my flask using the Allinone vacuum pump. Then let it...

Double IPA Still Too active to bottle?

Hi, Having trouble determining if my Double Zythos IPA is done, and ready to bottle. OG= 1.091 (hydrometer and refractometer agreed) brewed Oct 5th Transferred/dryhopped to secondary on the 13th Checked gravity with hydrometer on Nov 3rd, results inconclusive, as the sample was very foamy...
