    Old beer new beer

Hello, I read an article on dogfish head making a beer from the sediment found in the bottom of an ancient Egyptian beer bottle and I’m wondering if anyone has tried this? I think it’s an interesting idea and could result in very interesting beer but I’m very much an amateur so not sure how to...

AM I Crazy? Or should beer be simple and enjoyable?

But then again there are million dollar breweries owned by 2 guys that started in a shed. Didn't Mell start a brewery? Even with all of his sewage issues and whatnot? Maybe it takes less time and money than we realize.

AM I Crazy? Or should beer be simple and enjoyable?

I had that same experience recently. It's the reason I'm here right now. In 2014 on Super Bowl Sunday I got extremely in over my head trying to make a Westvleteren 12 clone with a friend's all-grain brewing setup. I had only brewed once or twice before. After trying the first bottle, I found it...

Maybe not from him directly but some of those threads do teach some lessons if you can see through the choas! o_O

Automating circulation of hot/cold water for conical?

Hi all, Previous home owner had washer/dryer in the basement and then moved upstairs, but I still have the hot & cold water hookups on the wall unused. Can I buy a stainless conical fermenter, coil hose around it, and somehow automate running the hot & cold water through it to control the temp...

AM I Crazy? Or should beer be simple and enjoyable?

I read the sewage thread (been just lurking for a while) and if ismellweird contaminated his pot with sewage, he apparently managed to still make good beer after sanitizing the pot. Despite a dozen responses saying he should toss the pot and buy a new one. Again, maybe it's just easier to make...

AM I Crazy? Or should beer be simple and enjoyable?

From what I can recall, my grandfather would make beer out of anything. And IN anything. And he enjoyed it right up till the day he died. He was even drinking some when he died. My point is: Maybe Mell and Fred and the others are just showing us that we're trying too hard. RDWHAHB has been the...

    Hops and dogs.....

Your dog shouldn't be eating hops, so ask yourself if your dog likes to eat stuff around the yard and act accordingly! My own dog doesn't see them as a snack and generally doesn't eat stuff around the yard.

    Fermented Maple Sap?

Maybe this is the wrong place to post this on HBT, but I'm wondering if anyone has fermented maple tree sap into a light maple-flavored carbonated beverage? If I have 10 gallons of maple sap at a sugar concentration of 2% (2g per 100ml, or 757g), I can boil it down to 5 gallons with 757g/1.7lb...

    Be Hoppy IPA Clone?

Hello, I'm Larry Appleton from center of the US, but recently was in New England and had Be Hoppy IPA from Wormtown brewery in Massachusetts. Does anybody know if a clone exists that even remotely approaches the real thing? I see things here and there when I search but nothing with any positive...
