How do i calculate Final Gravity with adjunct additions?

Thanks for this, day_trippr. I'm about to add 2# of chocolate nibs that I soaked in 75ml of vodka, but don't see anywhere in BeerSmith 3 to add alcohol content to Misc. additions. The nibs are already in my BeerSmith calculations. Can I just take my final gravity before the nibs and compare to...

    Favorite Liquors for Vanilla Tinctures?

I brew a chocolate stout, using a few vanilla beans (split & scraped) soaked in vodka. Been thinking of changing things up, maybe using bourbon or rum. What are your favorite liquors for making vanilla tinctures? Do you use different processes depending on which liquor you’re using?

Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Mash Conversion

RO-water was heated Grist at the ready Went to pour in my obsessively-measured salts (spot on to the .00th of a gram), when I slipped, spilling most of them in the kettle... but some on the brew-room floor. With most of the salts already in the water, there was no way out but through. I wet my...

A fellow brewer from the promised land! I'm in Iowa, but grew up in Moohread. Always pine for my home state, and get back as often as I can. Really cool thing you got going with Forgotten Star! I'll have to see if I can get my hands on some.

Timing my Dry Hopping & Cold Crashing

As far as I understand, its good to drop to 50F (50–60, depending on who you ask), to get the yeast all sleepy so they don't interact and create hop bite or produce diacetyl, which can be an issue. Cheers!

Timing my Dry Hopping & Cold Crashing

Thanks for this, Bobby! 1. I have precise temp control 2. My fermenter accepts CO2 input 3. My fermenter can handle 15psi 4. I don't have access to Lupomax or Cryohops for this batch I've done a diacetyl rest and am in the middle of a soft-crash at 55F with about 5-7psi. My hops are already...

Timing my Dry Hopping & Cold Crashing

Hey all, About to dry-hop a NEIPA. I've read that dry hopping for 3-4days produces the wanted benefits while avoiding grassy off-flavors from dry hopping for too long. How does cold crashing factor into this? If I dry hop for 4days and then cold crash for 2days, do I risk unwanted flavors...
