I wonder if they changed the setting on thier crush. My last three bathces from them have come in under gravity by 4-8 points. Nothing has changed in my process and I even mased for 90 minutes on the last one. I always used to come in slightly above gravity with them, even if I wound up with a...

How often do you take apart the bleichman ball valve?

and clean it on the kettle? I just usually run pbw through it and then water. i ahve never taking it apart...it has to get pretty darn hot in there during the boil, so I assume that sanatizes it too? Looks like a lot of nuts and bolts...nuts and bolt scare me, i usually have extra after a job...

Is anyone else bothered by the passing of Greg Noonan?

i dunno...i'm a BIG beer drinker, have been since i was in my teens...i love beer...no spirits, minimal wine....but love my beer....sometimes i 'll have the equivalent of a six pack in a day, i work two jobs, one from 5-9 am then a second from 10:30-6:30pm--i might have a beer in between (most...

Anyone use the tap a draft system?

pros? cons? why only 3 oz priming sugar? also if making 5.5-6 gallon batches, can you bottle the leftovers? in other words, do you still use a bottling bucket to prime the beer and then fill the kegs, allowing the leftovers to be bottled? I hate to waste beer and my batches are usually...

Idea to increase the efficiency of my chiller...

ok, so i don't have a lot of coin to upgrade my chiller ad i don't have the luxury of super cool ground water (summer runs 7o degrees or so) and ittskes me almost a half hour to cool my wort to 80 degrees...har me out... say i fill a nice big bin with ice water and extend my intake of my...

Anyone use a stainless steel tea ball for hops?

rather than those little cloth hop bags? I was just wondering if they would negatively affect utilization or taste if 1/2 of them don't come out of the bag like in paramus.

I just had the ugliest blowoff....

spent $14 for the funnel with screen from Northern Brewer...didn't work very well, my runnings were at a standstill unless i scraped the screen, which was a pain so i moved the screen slightyl off-center... my blowoff blew hop residue up to the top of the carboy....and now its stuck on the...

is it ok to age carb'd beer at 67 degrees?

my basement is at 72, so my beers were being stored in my converted freezer at 50 degrees. i just brewed a robust porter and the OG was a bit high at 1.072. to hopefully avoid too much of an alcohol taste, i wanted to ferment a bit lower than the ambient temp in the basement. i placed the carboy...

going to be brewing this week, I'm planning to ferment it at 65 for a week or so, then drop it to 60 for a few weeks like my kolsch (using the same yeast), how long would you age it from that point forward before bottling? It's rare for me to secondary a beer, is this one time I should? I...
