    Cold conditioning question

Im going to keg a batch of pale ale in the next couple days and had a couple questions i wanted to run by the experts :) after transfer i plan on purging the keg with co2 and letting it sit in the basement, i guess id consider this the secondary. from what i've read this should be ok - I...

i made my yeast starter yesterday

but some work issues surfaced today and i wont be able to brew this weekend. can i throw my yeast starter in the fridge and use it next weekend? i would think it'd be fine - just let it warm up to room temperature before I pitched it. just wanted everyone's .02!

Just completed my 1st AG Brew

they dont make em with mercury anymore - it's just colored alcohol.

    What made you start brewing?

for some reason i feel silly admitting this but for me it was the tv commercials for sam adam's "long shot" homebrew contest. i went to sam adam's website and watched jim koch's long shot videos where he makes an extract version of his boston ale. i ordered a starter kit from the web and...

    hand pump for a corny?

yeah im definitely on the same wavelength as you - it'll cost me $20 whether i get a charger or pump but at least with the pump i wont need cartridges and i wont have to make sure people arent doing whippits! ironically i actually WANT the charging handle, but i think the pump is just going...

Do I need a yeast starter?

im still a fairly 'green' brewer but i have learned a think or two about the basics, one of them being starters. i've learned (the hard way) yeast starters are good for 2 reasons: 1) making a starter lets you know before you brew if your yeast is even any good. if you pitch bad/dead...

    hand pump for a corny?

well that's what i was trying to avoid - bringing the 5# tank & regulator - especially since i know that beer will be gone within hours if one of my friends busted my reg i'd have to thrown them in the lake - with the tank up their *** ;)

    hand pump for a corny?

oh definitely - we'll be drinking more than my 10 gallons but at least i'll have homebrew to offset all the BMCers ;) im just wondering how i'd rig up a line with a quick-disconnect or how exactly it'd be connected edit: ahhhh i see - you just need the coupler...

    hand pump for a corny?

I'll be hitting the lake this summer; 1 or 2 corny's of something in-hand. has anyone rigged one these up to a ball-lock corny before? http://www.beveragefactory.com/draftbeer/pumps/replacement/HP-700.shtml or 8" Black Plastic Hand Pump for Keg Beer | BeverageFactory.com i've...

LOL my GOD the SA Cranberry Lambic is horrid.... im actually choking one down right now but i have a fairly good buzz going and dont want to waste my good beer - saving my last 6er for tomorrow's game ;) you know what i do with beers i dont like? I make beer bread. if you have a beer you...

    bottling a lager

ooooohhhh... i see. i thought lagering happened after it was kegged/bottled. no wonder i was confused! :) i guess ill let them finish carbing and then put them in the fridge. they're being stored at the same temp (50 degrees) so that should keep them happy

    bottling a lager

i basically did the same thing as you - 3 weeks of cool fermentation (between 50-55 degrees) and then bottled yesterday. it's been 24 hours since i bottled, you think i could just stick it in the fridge for a few weeks and it should be fine huh? i was under the impression that a lager had...

    bottling a lager

I just primed and bottled a lager and since it's my first one im not sure what to do. do let it sit for a couple days at 65 degrees so it can carbonate and then stick it in the fridge? or do i stick it in the fridge and start lagering immediately?

American Porter Bee Cave Brewery Robust Porter

Ed - after all the rave reviews of your recipe i've decide to do a partial mash version (unfortunately Im not quite equipped for AG yet) I love sam adam's honey porter so if I were to add honey to this recipe; how much would I add and when would I add it?

    Anti-IPA ?

it depends on what im in the moood for. I love hopbombs but sometimes i like to change gears and have a stout or porter... I tend to rotate styles every few weeks and it's probably because i love them all!

do i need to lager my yeast starter?

sweet; thanks for the quick feedback. i plan to lager using a combination of frozen packs in water along with the fan & t shirt method. that should be enough to keep it at lager temps right? (below 50 degrees?)
