Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

Go BIAB. Bags are super cheap, all you need is a 10G pot to do full volume mashes. I made the leap from Extract to BIAB and am so much more satisfied.

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

Brewing a version of this recipe today. Can't wait to see what this beer will taste like. I have no local homebrew store so I buy sacks of base grain, and 1LB of hops at a time from YakimaValley. Also, I don't have flaked rice or flaked corn on hand so I subbed instant grits and instant rice...

    Cheaper alternative the the Thermapen

Javelin Pro for me. Works great. Never had an instance where I could wait 3 seconds for a reading, but not 5.

Need help breaking down what's going wrong with my IPAs

I used 2015 and 2016 hops with no issue. How are you storing your hops? I vacuum seal mine in mason jars and keep them in a freezer. See pic here. https://imgur.com/46TRIqy

American Amber Ale House Amber (AG & Extract)

Just wanted to bump this thread and reiterate how good this recipe is. I bumped the IBU's on this up to 35 and it's a now a wonderful malty amber with some pale ale hoppyness. Rebrewing this one Sunday!

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Today is my 1st attempt at a NEIPA style beer. Used the "simple" method for water treatment in the first post. I'm not worried about the following, just more curious about what I should expect. I hit the "flameout" addition on point, 160ºf addition was missed and I sat them at 150ºf for 30...

American IPA My 2-time gold winning American IPA

This is tasting fantastic so far. Still in primary undergoing dry hopping. Brewed on 10/25 w US-05 yeast. Currently sitting @ 1.011 from 1.063. Dry hopped towards end of active fermentation on 10/29 with 1oz Cascade and added 1oz of Citra on 11/3. Going to keg this on 11/7.

    Gnats

Are you sure you are dealing with gnats and not fruit flies? I've never had gnats near my homebrew.

American IPA My 2-time gold winning American IPA

First time making this recipe today. Currently letting my mash bag drain. I buy my hops and grains in bulk so I can brew "on a whim" without having to go to my homebrew store. Sometimes this means I need to sub a few things here and there. For this recipe I swapped the 1LB of 20L with a mix...

where to get good hops seeds?

I've never heard of people planting hops by seed. It's typically done with purchased hop rhizomes. These are available twice a year in the spring and fall. http://www.yakimavalleyhops.com/Hop_Rhizomes_s/1930.htm

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

    Sanitizing Cacao Nibs For Secondary

Soak them in 1/2C of Vodka. The flavor added by the vodka will be negligible. You could also put the nibs in just enough water to cover them in small pot, bring the pan to a boil and let it boil for 5 minutes to sanitize the nibs. I've done this method with chopped up vanilla beans and have...

Would like recommendation for bulk hop order

I buy from Yakimavalleyhops.com and have bought a LB of Columbus, Cascade, Centennial, Nugget, Warrior, Citra, Amarillo, Mosaic, Tettnanger, Willamette. Once opened, I keep them all in 1 quart glass mason jars that are vacuum sealed and stored in the freezer. Most of these were purchased in the...

Making an Ale taste like a Lager

Different strokes, I suppose. I just finished fermenting an Oktoberfest with 34/70 @ 65f and it's turned out fantastic and definitely has the "clean lager" character that I was aiming for.

stomach issues possibly from first brew

Are you familiar with pouring bottles of beer that are live yeast carbonated? Most commercial beer is force carbonated. However, bottled homebrew is naturally carbonated with yeast and sugar. Naturally carbonated beers have a thin layer of yeast on the bottom of the bottle that is supposed to be...

    Porter Yeast Recommendations

I used US-05 last time I made EF, and it was amazing. I was planning on using Denny's 1450 or S-04 the next time I made a batch of Edmund though, just to see the difference.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I've got bulk Amarillo, Mosaic, Citra, Centennial, Cascade, Columbus, Willamette, Nugget, Warrior, and Tettnang. Out of these, what would everyone use for late addition hops? I'm currently debating between Mosaic/Amarillo/Citra or Mosaic/Columbus/Citra.

A Few More BTUs or A Cereal Killer?

I personally love being able to buy grains in bulk so I can brew whatever I want, whenever I want, and save some money while doing it. Having a grain mill allows me to store 50LBS of Maris Otter and Pale 2-row and also keep 5LBs of 10+ specialty grains on hand at any given time. Because of this...
