    Man, I love Apfelwein

It will look more like cider - not a bad thing! I bottle conditioned/carbed mine and they're in brown beer bottles. Letting them age but not worried about the clarity. This isn't beer or wine. :)

    Good Hard lemonade

I agree that it tastes terrible so it has to be backsweetened/flavored. If you're making it still or kegging it, then you can backsweeten/flavor with more lemonade, sugar, etc. If you're bottle carbing, your choices are more limited as fermentable sugars will carbonate and possibly...

Has anyone used Munton's Carb tabs? How many tabs per bottle did you find worked best?? Thanks!

    Yikes! Help!

It went down on fairly thick linoleum (a few inches prior would have been on hardwood floor...). I'll inspect it this weekend when I rack and bottle (don't see anything at this point but rather heavy to move around too much). I have all ingredients for a batch of Apfelwein set to go into the...

    Yikes! Help!

Thanks, everyone! Wow! I'm glad I posted this not only for myself but this is important information to share, no doubt!! I had no idea of the dangers! In retrospect, it truly makes sense! How can one expect the narrow neck of a carboy to support 5 gallons or more of (liquid) weight without...

    Yikes! Help!

Okay, get out the tissues: I was ready to bottle my Hard Limeade last Saturday and hubby was very kind to offer to carry the 5 gallon carboy out to the kitchen. Wellllll, the carboy handle wasn't on tight enough (I don't usually move it that far...) and oops... handle came off the carboy, the 5...

    Rehdrating dry yeast

Great directions, thanks! Can you elaborate a bit more on when it might be necessary to use a starter? Apparently I've been quite fortunate and never needed to use one. However, perhaps I should have and I was just lucky...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Thank you! I recycled some beer bottles and they do look a bit thin...Is the pressure more than a beer? Thanks again!

    Good Hard lemonade

I tried with malt and I personally did not care for the flavor...so much so that I dumped the batch! Try making a one gallon batch and you be the judge! :mug:

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I have a 3 gallon batch that I started on 5-06-09. I'm hoping to bottle and carb around 7-06. Your expertise in answering two questions would be greatly appreciated: 1. Will 3/4 cup corn sugar for priming make it super-carbed just like beer or just lightly carbed like a Mike's Hard Lemonade or...

    Hard Lemonade - Back Sweetening

"(OR figure out the amount of sugar in the concentrate and use that for priming)" Please forgive my ignorance, but other than by trial and taste, how do I do that? Thanks again!!

    Hard Lemonade - Back Sweetening

Thanks for responding, Yooper. So, am I better off sweetening with wine conditioner or lactose, adding non-fermentable lime flavoring (if needed) and then add 3/4 corn sugar for carbing as I do when making beer? Thanks again! P.S. As I used your recipe for the most part, do you ever bottle...

    Hard Lemonade - Back Sweetening

Need some advise, please: I started a Hard Limeade on 5/24 and I'm ready to bottle this week. My question is regarding bottle carbing/conditioning... This is the recipe I used: For 5 gallons: 10 cans MM frozen limeade 5 LBS cane sugar 5 tsp yeast nutrient 3 tsp yeast energizer 4...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I am planning on carbonating a 3 gallon batch of Apfelwein. I plan on bulk aging until I just can't stand waiting any longer and then bottle carb. My question is: If bottles are carbed due they still age like bottles of wine do?

    Man, I hate Apfelwein

Good answer! I'm going to take it then that there are no dis-likers! :mug:

    Man, I hate Apfelwein

I have a 3 gallon batch of Apfelwein going...looking forward to trying it! A nagging question is still in my mind: Is there anyone who didn't like Apfelwein? As I already have another 5 gallons set to go, I'm just wondering...
