American Porter Edmund Fitzgerald Clone (AG)

Gonna brew this today. I have recently started back to brewing after a couple year hiatus. this was always one of my favorites btw. Problem is, i was unable to get WLP007. I made a 2L starter of WLP002. I am worried about it being too sweet since the 002 doesnt attenuate like the 007...

    Record for reawakening refridgerated yeast?

Well this morning the kreuzen dropped and there the wort was a nice cream color vs the dark brown color it was before the yeast took off. There was also a nice ring around the flask that was about 3/4 of an inch thick. I will take a gravity reading later today. I plan to use this in an...

    Record for reawakening refridgerated yeast?

Just got home from work and noticed about a 3/8" layer of foam/kreuzen on top. This morning there was nothing, just a brown liquid stirring on the stir plate. Its been 22 hrs. This is encouraging. It also smelled pretty good. More to follow.

    Record for reawakening refridgerated yeast?

I just made a starter from some Pacman yeast i washed and referigerated back in Oct 2010, so nearly 4 years. 1500 ml starter at 1.038 Og. Been on the stirplate for about 12 hrs. Plan to give it 4 or 5 days i guess and see what happens.

    football season is almost here

This season is special to me. My boy will be playing linebacker for the Airforce Academy Falcons in the Mountain West conference. Its his freshman year. He just started practice yesterday. Hopefully he will catch the eye of the defensive coord and get some playing time at special teams. He...

    Harbor Freight Flux Welder

We use one of these at a range i shoot at. We have completely abused this welder for the past 2 years and i hasnt missed a beat. For under a hundred bucks, you cant beat it. Mig welding is very easy to learn. Just practice on scrap steel till you get the hang of it. also buy a cheapo angle...

Dead Guy Ale and Pacman yeast?

deadguy didnt work for me, nor did double deadguy. I tried for over a week with both. I finally ordered a wyeast Pacman from Brewmasterswarehouse. Since then, i've washed 12 half pints of the pacman from a DFH 60 clone. Now pacman is my main yeast for my IPA's

    First all grain tomorrow

I brewed 2 extract kits from the LHBS, then did one PM thanks to the posts on this site. Then worked up the nerve to build my MLT (thanks again to HBT). Haven't looked back. Once you go all grain you have to score a barleycrusher. Best investment ive made so far besides my keezer and 4 keg...

Over 48 hours and no action yet ???

i used to freak out on the airlock also. Until i got a few lids with the O-ring gaskests in them. since then, all my primarys have been bubbling away within the first 6 hours. If your lids have no gaskets, its touch and go as to airlock activity. What i have learned after about 50 or 60...

    Dry hopping

I am trying something new for my batch of DFH 60 (thanks yooper). I fermented for 10 days in primary bucket then added leaf hops in a hop bag to the primary. After a week i plan on removing the bag of hops and transfering to carboy for about 10 days without the hops....then keg. I tried...

    Double check your thermometers

I just dropped 90 bucks on a Thermoworks Thermapen. Should arrive by my next brew day. I got tired of the inconsistencies of my cheap analog and walmart and Target digitals.
