To boil or not to BOIL??

If I use some LME in my cider, do I have to boil the LME for the protein break or can I just heat it enough till it dissolves in water?

Wtt: Two 5 gal ball lock kegs

I have two 5 gallon ball lock kegs to trade for one or two 3 gallon ball lock kegs. The 5 gal kegs are clean and hold pressure. I'm scaling down the brewery and need to let some stuff go! PM if you are interested and we'll cut a deal! Thanks.

    Pasturized Kill

After cold crashing my cider, can I backsweeten with Pasturized cider to improve the flavor AND kill the remaining yeast? I know that pasturized cider doesn't ferment.

    Wyeast Kolsch

I'm about to put down a batch of simple hard cider and all I have in the fridge is an Activator pack of 2565 Kolsch Wyeast. What do ya think? It's all I've got! I don't even have an old musty dry pack anywhere. It should be a decent match since it does ferment a bit on the fruity side, huh?

    Drain Valve

Where should I mount my weldless drain valve on my brew kettle...how far from the bottom?

    Valve installation

Well I've searched this site for an answer and now I'll just ask. I've got a weldless valve to install on my kettle, how far from the bottom of the kettle should I mount this thing?

    Accidental Sour?

Last night I finally tapped my keg of Cream Ale (Northern Brewer kit) I put down last month. Everything looked great except for some excessive cloudiness. I gave it a taste and was surprised to find that it had a fruity and sour taste. Not a bad sour taste just a touch. I drank 4 glasses of this...

    Rebel Brewer WOW!

Yesterday I placed an order for the first time with Rebel Brewer. Less than 24 hours later, it is on my doorstep. I didn't even choose overnight shipping, just standard. WOW! Props to Rebel Brewer and thanks for the speedy delivery!

    Puzzled

I'm perplexed. I have two brews in the fermentation chamber (gotta love the temp regulator on a freezer) set at 67 for two weeks now. Today I wanted to crash cool both of them before transfer to the bright tanks so, I dialed the temp down to 45 degrees. I just checked on it and it is down to...

    I miss liquid yeast

When I buy liquid yeast in the summer months, it arrives hot and that's with the ice pack. It's hotter N' hell down here! I have been using dry yeast. Man this stuff is s l o w. I even hydrated it and it's still lacking umph. I use a freezer with a temp regulator set at 70 for a fermentation...

    Bosco's Squared Memphis

If you're in Memphis and looking for some great beer go no further than Bosco's Squared. It's on Madison and Cooper. They had some fantastic beers and all of the styles were great representations! The food was excellent, a little pricey, but the beer made it worth it. My favorite was the ESB and...

    Bubbles in the serving tube!!

I just finished force carbing my keg at 30psi for 36 hrs. Carb is good in the keg (honey ale) but, I'm getting air in the picnic tap line. This didn't happen with my last batch. I checked for leaks in the line and found none. I bled the keg before setting the serving psi. The psi is at 9. This...

    Bitterness

Will bitterness eventually settle out of an aged beer? I just kegged a honey amber ale that was in the primary for 5 weeks. I used 1/2 oz of Galena hops at the beginning of the boil. Finished with 1oz of Fuggles the last 2 minutes of the boil (per instructions) I smell no hops in the aroma and...

    George Reisch AB

Just interviewed George Reisch, Anheuser Busch Brewmaster on the air this morning. What a great guy. Talking to him was a pleasure and much different than I thought it would be like for a little homebrewer like me. Gave me some great tips on yeast strains and a few other pointers. It's been...

Strange, floating, spongy, tub looking iceburgs...

I've got the Brass Ale Extract Kit from Midwest (Bass Ale Clone) in the fermenter, been there since Sunday (5/17). Went through a vigorous fermentation over the past couple of days and settled out the past couple. I peeked in on it today and it looks like the krausen has turned into a solid...

    Fermcap is the $#*%!

Man is that Fermcap good or what?! I bought it after reading about it on this board. I had the easiest brew day on Sunday I have ever had! I brewed 2 five gallon batches, had no boil overs and was able to do some other stuff around the garage during the boil. I'm fermenting in two 6 gal BB's...

    Watch those fermentation temps!

I put down ten gallons of brew yesterday. 5 Honey Amber Ale and 5 Bass Ale Clone. I stuck both fermenters in my still unfinished Keezer (using it as a fermentation chamber because of the heat here) and decided to just let it sit with the unit unplugged since it has been so cool and expected...

    Eureka! It is finished!

WOW! I have finally tapped and enjoyed my first homebrew in 12 years. An easy to brew Cream Ale but, none the less, superb! Big thanks to everyone here for your guidance along the way. I took the advice of a full boil and wow, what a difference. I kegged for the first time and didn't have the...

    Does Keg Pressure Fluctuate?

I kegged for the first time yesterday. I am using BierMuncher's method of 48 hrs @ 30psi to force carb. Do I have to continually make sure that the pressure stays at 30 or should the tank be regulating on it's own. I started it last night at 30 psi, checked after an hour and noticed it had...

Kegged today, let me know if I did good!

I decided to rack from my primary after 4 weeks since my FG was in the zone. I was going to wait 5 weeks but, got to cleaning my keg and BOOM! It was kegged. I racked to a corny, used BierMuncher's 48 hours @ 30psi method to force carb. Beer is a little green (Cream Ale) but, I feel that it...
