This is also a very good reason. Since I measure temperature from a thermowell in the center of the fermenter, the temperature will undershoot the target even though the compressor shuts off when the target temp is reached.

First, I don't have complete faith in the accuracy of the CO2 regulator when set to ~2 PSI. I'm worried about pressure creep. I don't have the confidence to "set and forget". I like to check on it. Also, in my case, I typically have 10-20 gallons at a time and it takes a while to drop 10...

Preventing suck back with Speidel fermenters is pretty easy. My standard set of steps for crashing: 1) replace airlock with gas post adapter https://www.norcalbrewingsolutions.com/store/Speidel-Ball-Lock-Gas-In-with-Pressure-Relief-Valve.html or...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I've had good luck with just tossing in free floating hops in the 14G BrewBucket (12 oz of dry hops in the case of 10 gal batch of NEIPA). I made sure that the pick-up tube is parallel to the floor from the very beginning. I do a couple of days cold crash and generally no problem direct...

Here is a picture of what this might look like with a 3-piece ball valve and reducers to go to beer line.

I am very curious as to: 1) how many unitanks and what capacity you have and 2) what you are using for a glycol chiller and 3) how you decided on what you have. Care to elaborate? I am still low tech: fermentation chest freezer, 14 Gallon SS Brewbucket & an assortment of 20L, 30L, 60L...

Brew Bucket by SS Brewing Technologies

I have a 14G SS Brew Bucket and I always apply a slight positive CO2 pressure when cold crashing. I simply remove the BO tube from the elbow and connect a hose that adapts to a hose from a CO2 regulator. I set the CO2 regulator just above 0 PSI but under 2 PSI and let it crash. I have never had...

Fantastic! Yes, I am on the city system in Columbia. Thanks TravelingLight.

I have a question for those of you that are all-grain brewers. The water analysis that the city of Columbia provides doesn't directly address the main issue of alkalinity. Do you use RO water with appropriate modifications or do you filter Columbia water. If you use filtered Columbia water, what...

I am often in the RTP area and get American 2-row 50 lbs bags for $40 (pretax). Pearl is obviously more expensive. BTW, just saw this thread. I am near the VA off Garners Ferry. Nice to find local fellow brewers.

    discoloration in speidel chrome faucets

Here is a possible solution if you like Speidel fermenters but don't like their faucets. I was re-reading an issue of BYO and saw and advertisement for stainless fittings for Speidel fermenters (Norcal Brewing). The 1.2" NPT adapter makes it easy to use a 2 or 3 piece ball valve (first...

Brew Bucket by SS Brewing Technologies

Thanks! This is exactly the info I was looking for. The SS Brewtech website shows that the barbed nipple side can be taken off. However, unlike your photo, they don't show that the one side of the seal and the ball can be removed for cleaning.

Brew Bucket by SS Brewing Technologies

I wonder why Brewtech also includes this valve as a sampling valve in their upscale Chronical Brewmaster series? If I dropped enough money to get a jacketed fermenter with butterfly valves and TC fittings, I would be bummed out to see this valve included. Surely I am not alone in being paranoid...

    discoloration in speidel chrome faucets

I've noticed the same discoloration and wasn't concerned about brass. However, I am concerned about the inability to thoroughly clean these faucets. Has anybody figured out how to disassemble them for a thorough cleaning? Is that even possible? Without disassembly, simply soaking in PBW and...
