    Amber Ale Suggestions

I like all the suggestions. Thank you all very much. Eric, I did ask for the recipe. Unfortunately, they get their "custom brew" from a local microbrew who purchased the recipe. I asked the pub manager, but he had no idea what a speciality grain was! Happy brewing!

    Amber Ale Suggestions

Hello all! I just got back from an irish pub that had an excellent amber irish ale on tap. Is was made by a local microbrew destributer, so no chance on getting the recipe. I seem to really enjoy the amber ales that are well balanced, with a great aroma. Does anyone have any ideas for a good...

    lager yeast starter help

By dumps, I am referring to the dump valve of my conical fermenter. I will "dump" it into a glass jar (sanitized) where I am trying to get a feel for how much yeast I get vs. how much I use. To be honest, I have not really read into the pitch rate thing, I am just trying to learn how to...

    Conical lager yeast harvest question

What I have always done was pull until the liquid comes. For instance, the first pull is all semi-solids, trub, etc. The second was also pulling until it gets thinned out. I let is sit in the frige to see, and it looks like the semisolid thicker pull off the second pull is still mostly yeast...

    lager yeast starter help

First of all, I have never done this before. I have been homebrewing for 3 years and decided to start harvesting and reusing yeast. My first attempt will be a lager yeast. I read numerus posting on here, but I feel like I am missing something. I went to Mrmalty and it says to re-pitch a 5.25...

    lager yeast question

Thank you all for your feedback regarding the initial question. I am new to Lagers because of the temp requirements, and I am wanting to harvest the yeast for my first time. That leads to another question. Is it worth trying to harvest the lager yeast, or would you recommend not because the...

    lager yeast question

Thanks guys. I think I will wait an additional day and dump the trub then an additional day before I try to harvest some of the yeast, putting me about 7 days after the start of fermentation. Anything not look right from what I am saying, please speak up!

    lager yeast question

Hello all. I typically brew almost all ales, but I am trying my first lager in my new conical fermenter. My queston is since lagers will ferment on the bottom, do I still want to use my dump valve on my conical at day 3. I don't want to dump active yeast. Thanks!

    Conical fermenter and lagar question

Forgive this question as it sounds like I am a newbie. I have been homebrewing for 3 years, but this is only my second lagar I have ever made. I know lagars will ferment on the bottom, unlike ales which will ferment on top. Does this mean I should not use my dump valve on the 3rd day of...

    Whole leaf hops brewing question

So if I add aroma hops in the last 5 minutes of boil, then strain them out prior to putting them in the fermenter, I will not loose any aroma? I of course trust your judgement or I would not have posted on here, I am just surprised. Thanks!

    Whole leaf hops brewing question

Hello all. I have a quick question. As with all my hobbies, this one is getting out of control. I recently bought a conical stainless fermenter, and love it. I also just started growing my own hops. I made my first batch using the whole leaf hops. With my recipe, I used both whole leaf, and...

    prime naturally, then what?

OK, I think I am getting it. When I give it a shot, then purge it, then shoot it again, how much time should I wait from each? Also, If I am going to give it a shot, and let it sit for 2-3 weeks, how much should I shoot it with? I realize it will not stay fully carbonated for the 3 weeks...

    prime naturally, then what?

So if I just want to store it in my basement for say 3 weeks, I can shoot it with CO2, this will not fully carbonate it becasue it is not on constant CO2. But, this will keep the beer good until I have room in my kegerator? Then, I can put it in my kegerator and let it sit for another week at...
