    Yakima Valley Pilgrimage

"Did you get a chance to go to Toppenish?" Yeah, I took a drive through the place one afternoon. Looks much the same as it did 10 years ago when I was there last. ETA: Toppenish is not on the reservation (though it may have been many moons ago?) As far as the dearth of breweries in the...

    Yakima Valley Pilgrimage

Happy New Year all! Last summer, I questioned my mother's logic behind moving from the Seattle area to the Yakima Valley. After spending Christmas week there, however, all is forgiven!! For those unfamiliar, the Yakima Valley is basically Hop Country USA, and one brewery stands out after...

    Let's Talk GPS Units!

+1 for the Garmin...from a guy who is a professional navigator (I own three...two for the car). Garmin is the industry standard for recreational use GPS, marine and land. I'm sure TomTom is good and all, but why buy a Ford from a Chevy dealer? Just sayin'! -P

    Victoria BC

How can ya go to the Sticky Wicket and NOT have a beer? Yeah, they ADVERTISE a drinking age of 19, but, as in the U.K., it's more of a HEIGHT requirement than anything else! Spent quite a few nights as a teen stumbling down the docks of the inner harbor trying to find whatever boat I happened...

    Victoria BC

Taking the ferry (M.V. Coho, from Port Angeles), or flying? Doesn't make a difference, just asking. Two of MY favorite places in Victoria are: 1. The Sticky Wicket. Government Street (I think) a few blocks up from the Empress Hotel) Very nice brewpub with excellent food. My favorite is...

Frankenwine (the root of all innovation)

I just pitched on 2 gallons of Cranberry/Cherry/Pomegranete. Added 1lb dextrose. OG of 1077 and was pretty dang tasty going in. We'll see what happens in a few months. The Montrachet WILL dry it out....and to me, that's not a bad thing. Brewed TWO gallons so SWMBO can have one gallon...

    Old Dirty Bottles

I just bottled a batch in bottles I hadn't used in over four years and had been thru two long-distance moves (Yeah, I've been on sabbatical!). Gave them a long (Spanish for: A week) soak in a washtub with bleach and water. Rinsed the hell out of them and they were as good as new. It takes a...

    Cranberry Cider?

Never made Cider before, but I'm wondering if this is Do-Able using EdWort's Apfelwein recipe/technique? Personally, I don't see why not, but any thoughts would be appreciated! Cheers... -Paul

    Greetings from Jacksonville, FL

[I'll ask this of Kevlar, too] ...and SPEAKING of LHBS's: being new to the area, I know of precisely ONE (Just Brew It). Living on the east side (Kernan) makes that quite a hike. Are there any that you know of closer to my neck of the woods? Google aint helping me much here. Any info...

    Ice in Fermenter?

I took this one step further and put a 2-1/2 gallon (sealed) jug in my spare freezer. 4 hours later, it was about 35 degrees and I put it in my primary. Added the wort to it, checked the temp and it was about 83 degrees. 15 minutes in cold bathwater later and I pitched. For the record...

    Greetings from Jacksonville, FL

Well, after about a two-year haiatus, I'm back brewing again, at the novice level! (Been promising my son a batch for months now!) Started a Red Ale (Kit) about two weeks ago and just racked to secondary. We'll see how it goes. Anyway, just wanted to drop by and say hi and quit lurking...

    Carbonated Kool Aide?

OK, so I'm a little late to this BBQ, but I'm new to the group and found a product over the weekend I REALLY like! Like a lot of us, I am somewhat of a Soda-Holic, but I agree with the Empty-Calorie train of thought. Besides, drinking soda in the Florida summer makes me real sick, real fast...
