    Water Analysis Analysis

Thanks, will definitely be downloading this when I get home. I still have some additions in my 'brewing supply bin'. Time to take inventory and see what I need to order when I order my supplies for the next batch.

    Water Analysis Analysis

you may not be. There has been significant rainfall here in NE Florida lately. I waited about a week after last rain before taking sample, but probably got a bit antsy.

    Water Analysis Analysis

Hi folks... My family recently had a well dug at a rural property that they own. I figured I'd run it through a Ward Labs analysis to see if it's suitable. I'm a moderately experienced brewer. However, I have been in a drought of late (2+ years) due to lots of young kids running around. I've...

Brewmasters Warehouse - What I like

Great service, agreed. I placed an order on Tuesday of this week and received it on WEDNESDAY. Granted, I live in the South, but that is some serious turnaround on picking an order that requires grain measuring. The previous company I used would have taken at least 24hrs to ship the order...

    Alcohol-Free Beer Recipe???

Yes, she is an elephant :cross:... LMAO, of course I meant weeks.

    Alcohol-Free Beer Recipe???

My wife is working on 17 months. Like some of you, we have googled the heck out of the issue, and have come to the conclusion that there is no evidence whatsoever supporting moderate levels of alcohol leading to FAS. That said, we tend to be more on the cautious side, so she typically limits...

    Karankawa Pale Ale

I am on my 2nd batch of this right now (just kegged). The first batch was my favorite homebrew yet. I've done about 20 extract kits to date. I would agree with the others - Nice and hoppy, citrus notes on the nose. As soon as I tasted the first batch, I ordered 2 more kits. FYI, I used...

Good quality and Cheap Extract kits

Keep an eye on the promotional kits from Austin Homebrew. I ordered the Karakanawa Pale Ale out of curiosity a few weeks ago and am enjoying it now. It is easily my best homebrew yet! (I've done about 25 or so batches), and the least I have paid for a kit.

Anyone do the Simcoe IPA kit from Midwest?

That's funny. I have it sitting in my shopping cart right now, and was jumping over here to search in hopes of finding a review. So, uh... bump.

    Co2 and kegging

You don't need sugar if you are using CO2. The gas will be forced into the beer under pressure, thus giving you carbonation. There are a couple of ways to do this, but the safest method is the 'set and forget' method, where you just let the keg sit at serving pressure for a week or two. More...

How do you miss OG w/ extract?

Thanks Bri. I appreciate the reply. I figured it would be OK, since my previous batches were equally mixed most likely and turned out great for the most part, so I wasn't too concerned. That said, it's always nice to hear some words of comfort when you've got 5 gallons quietly gurgling away...

How do you miss OG w/ extract?

Thanks Malkore... I have a follow-up to that. Assuming I did not mix the top-off water sufficiently, will this ultimately affect the flavor of my beer, or will the fermentation activity distribute the beer composition evenly? That said, most of the beginner how-tos I have read say that the...

How do you miss OG w/ extract?

gotcha... it is indeed a 60 deg hydrometer. I didn't realize they were so sensitive to temperature. I guess I'd know that if I'd been more diligent with my readings up to this point. Thanks guys. At this point, I'm concluding that it's a combination of a warm reading and a little too much...

How do you miss OG w/ extract?

I got it down to 75 before adding the wort and top-off to the fermenter and shaking, so I was in the neighborhood of that. Now that I think about it a bit more, I may have been a little heavy on the top-off water. I have a 6 gallon better bottle, and I measured the 5 gallon mark based on a...

How do you miss OG w/ extract?

I'm on my 10th or so batch of beer. I'm still working my way up, adding equipment as I go... I'll be doing all grain this time next year, but for now I'm still trying to improve my methods with extract. I haven't been the best about checking my gravities, but made it a point to check OG...

What is your favorite piece of equipement that makes brew day easier??

the 'next thing I am going to buy' is probably the most significant addition for me. Right now, that next thing is AG equipment :) But seriously, homebrewing has to be the ultimate hobby. There is always a way to improve your process through acquisition of new toys. That said, I am a...

    Fermentation Chiller question

I see... so the home thermostat relies on an external relay for switching the load of the a/c compressor and heat pump? I guess that explains the price difference. I think I'll go the ice maintenance route, for now... Thanks.

    How did you find us?

this site is well-optimized for search engines. I found it about 8 months ago on Google and my life hasn't been the same since. I got my Dad a 'true brew' bucket kit for Christmas 2006, which he gave to me the following year. I'm now installing a kegging system, and about to draw up plans for...
