Anyone Use WLP693 - L Plantarum for kettle souring?

I've used 5 capsules of Swanson Plantarum in a 3 liter (3 quarts) starter with 10% Apple Juice and some CaCO3, which I had sitting unstirred for 3 days at 25˚C (77F). I pitched that (minus the CaCO3 sediment) into the Speidel BM50 (14,5 Gallons) and kept it at 35˚C (95F) for 18 hours. pH had...

Wow! Glad you finally figured it out. Well, you had almost all other possible causes eliminated by now... Good thing you realized this before accidentally making an "Eisbock"...

It does undershoot a little, of course. But that's well within the range of 1-2˚F, so nothing to really worry about, from my experience. I've set my FTSs to 0,1˚C hysteresis, and 30 minutes delay (so the heating won't kick in when the temp is undershot). Usually I don't have both heating &...

Sure! These are the pipes meant for the Grainfather chiller: https://www.grainfather.com/shop/conical-fermenter/cooling-connection-kit.html Apparently these aren't yet available in the US, though. They come with the disconnects I've shown, but I'm sure there must be a cheaper option, too. The...

Doubling Down: SS Brewtech Conical + FTSS + Glycol Power Pack

I still owe you guys a short summary of my first impressions of the new 3/8 HP Ss Brewtech Glycol Chiller... I finally received another 5 Litres of Glycol today and was able to put it to a first test. It's quite a monster. In order to fill up the tank, you'll need 3 Gallons of Propylene Glycol...

Looks like a manufacturing fault to me. StarSan is definitely not the culprit. Some of my butterfly valves have been used way more often without any problems so far. I'm using StarSan, too, as well as occasionally 70% Ethanol.

I just stumbled across this article on their FAQ, perhaps this is the case with your setup? https://ssbrewtech.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000357166-My-fermenter-wont-go-lower-than-40-degrees-when-I-crash-cool-what-gives- Just trying to find an explanation. When cold crashing my current...

@Tartan1: Absolutely. But, like you mention, does this really make a difference (at the volumes we typically work with, i.e. 5 to 17 Gal.)? Especially with the really long coils the Ss Fermenters (Unitanks) come with? I would expect temperatures to be quite equal on input and output sides...

Interesting! I've never heard of this phenomenon before. It explains the differences in measurement between the readings of my iSpindle (which floats on top of the beer/wort) and the readings from the thermowell. Will keep that in mind. From perspective of flow rate, I don't see why this would...

    iSpindle - DIY Electronic Hydrometer

Hi, the battery should be at >4.1V when fully charged. I guess there is something wrong with your charger module. I am not familiar with the model you are using, mine have only one LED which changes color (orange/red when charging and blue or green when fully charged). Looks to me like your...

Also, it's a good idea to only solder the required 4 pins. Makes replacement easier.

If you can definitely rule out the soldering, it's probably a faulty gyro.

The battery needs to be well charged in order to flash the Wemos. Since the diode on the Wemos has to be removed, it is then no longer getting power from its USB port. Future Firmware updates can then be done over the air (via WLAN). I got into the habit of flashing the firmware to the Wemos...

Yea I'll report. I'm enthusiastic about it. I was completely taken by surprise, they suddenly became available, no pre-order, no announcements whatsoever. It's already on its way from UK and I'll probably be able to unbox it by Monday. Got the GF one a few weeks ago and felt happy but I can...

Yea, that's the one they just made available in Europe, too. Finally. Can't wait to finally get my hands on this. Ordered a 2nd 1/2 BBL Unitank alongside. They're already shipping here. Mine is underway. What I don't like about the smaller fermenters (7 Gal) is that they have only 3 legs...

The regular D1 Mini (not the Pro version). The Pro's ceramics antenna doesn't work as well under these conditions. If the signal strength is too low, you can use a repeater (preferably mounted above the fermenter's lid) or a Raspberry Pi or something similar. With the latest firmware update...

Hi, I've just discovered this thread. I'm the developer of the generic TCP Server for the iSpindel and one of the contributors to the iSpindel project: https://github.com/DottoreTozzi/iSpindel-TCP-Server Nice to see that it has crossed the "pond". :mug: @pocketmon: I have an iSpindel floating...

That's a brilliant idea, using the Quick Carb set. I've got two beers ready for kegging, one is sitting in my Unitank, the other in a 10 Gal. Brite, both pressurized. How did you cap off the unused port on the Blichmann kit?

I shall, too, very soon try to transfer my first pressured batches from both Brite and Unitank into NC kegs. Closed Loop transfer, using gravity, will probably, albeit slowly, work with my Brite (it sits on a scissor-style lifting table) but not with the Unitank, so I might have to use a...

Thanks, that's really kind of you! Luckily I've found all I need, once you pointed me at the right direction regarding what to look for. Sometimes, my head is just spinning with all those different thread types. Whilst we do have metric ones over here, usually, I now have to deal with...
