    Grainfather!!

I have a buddy who has a still. I have had 2 bad batches in the years of brewing... we ran them through the still. Might give you the excuse to purchase the alembic dome distilling kit for GF. I run a fresh rinse of water through the wort line just before brewing... drain it... and then I...

    Grainfather!!

Latest brew results... Early in my brewing on the grainfather I was having horrible efficiency. I brewed 8 or 9 batches within the first two months of having the grainfather, I still could not get it right and efficiency was just at 60% or slightly higher. (this discussion is earlier in this...

    Grainfather!!

If your ceiling is low, you might see small spots on the ceiling without a fan or something to disperse the steam. At least that is what I noticed after my first few brews. After cleaning the ceiling and then running a regular box fan on brew days, I haven't noticed anything after multiple brews.

    Favorite "Two Hop" IPA combinations.

as many of these hop combos are citrus like combos, has anyone tried lemondrop or a combo with lemondrop yet?

    Favorite "Two Hop" IPA combinations.

Just kegged a combo of galaxy and amarillo for an IPA. Nice grapefruit smell and taste. I did add grapefruit zest to secondary along with combo of galaxy/amarillo. Still, this one will be a good beer when carbed fully. I was trying to create a beer similar to Ballast Points Sculpin...

I think the counterflow chiller with the GF is way better than my plate chiller in my old system.

    Plum Wine Opinion Needed

I am sure that you have seen this recipe since you probably Googled plum wine recipe. https://morewinemaking.com/content/plum-wine-recipe I used this recipe and it made great plum wine. I went closer to the 6 lbs side. The only difference is that I used a merlot yeast that dried the wine...

    Grainfather!!

It doesn't have to be an aggressive stir to knock the rubber/silicone cap off. I don't know about others, but mine is not very secure on the filter to begin with and will fall off even before attaching the filter to the GF housing. Maybe it is my cap that is the problem and I should order a...

    Grainfather!!

It calls for 1/2" but I was contempt with <1". Nothing went over the overflow outlet. Yes, it is a stirring issue on why it get's knocked off easily. I am sure that I could train myself not to stir like I did with all of my other systems, but I would rather come up with a solution for the...

    Grainfather!!

I have about 10+ brews in now and the filter cap has popped off at least 3 times. All it takes is a brush of the paddle during a stir and off it comes. I also have been using a homemade hop spider and when the cap hasn't fallen off things have went smooth. The problem is when the cap has...

    Grainfather!!

Finished another brew yesterday on the Grainfather. I did a hefe and finished at my target OG. I was very cautious on my sparge method. I let the wort drain from the grain basket completely before adjusting the top mesh and sparging. I was careful to keep 1" of water above the grain bed...

    Grainfather!!

Thanks for that information. I have done everything according to the posts here and other reading information that I have gained. I changed my sparge method, I set my strike higher to compensate for "cold" grain, and I did step mashes. The only thing that I can come up with is that maybe I...

    Grainfather!!

Well my only thought in difference between the gravity method and the grainfather is that when I would collect my wort from the cooler I would sparge until I had the desired amount. This usually worked for giving the correct pre boil gravity as well. That is something I should probably start...

    Grainfather!!

Kampenken... thanks for the reply. I did my brew today and was shy of my target OG again. Like you, I adjust my strike temp higher as a result from my cooler mash tun days. I haven't measured the grain itself, but the grainfather temp usually levels out shortly. I do pay close attention...

    Grainfather!!

When I first purchased the grainfather back in February I pounded out 6 batches within a two to three week period. After a couple of months break because of work travel, I did my 7th batch this past Wednesday. It was a kolsch. My target OG was 1.049 but I ended up with 1.046. After...

    Grainfather!!

Thanks for this. I have been toying with Beersmith profile as well... but just haven't nailed it down yet. Will give this profile a try on my next brew in a couple of weeks.

    Grainfather!!

It took me 5 brews to figure it out. It was a video with subtitles from someone in Europe that explained the exact process in detail. I have yet to be able to find that video again, but it was confirmed to me by the Grainfather folks that letting the wort mostly drain out, adjust the top...

    Favorite "Two Hop" IPA combinations.

I have come to like Equinox/Motueka... I also like Galaxy/Citra. I even have one recipe that uses all four.

    Grainfather!!

I was at a point where I was going to have to convert my keggle system into a HERMS or a RIMS to do indoor brewing. Thus the Grainfather was my choice to keep things simple. I have 5 brews under my belt now with the Grainfather using an adjusted profile in Beersmith. I built my profile...

    OG too low

I still don't know if you let the grain fully drain or enough until the grainbed has settled to adjust the top plate. Everything suggests to let it almost drain completely before sparging... If you figure it out (or if anyone else has figured it out) please post it. I have about 50 brews with...
