    Adventures in Home Malting

Excellent article! I currently don't have the time or ambition you have to make my own but I wont ever rule it out. My father in-law raises a few thousand acres of 6 row for Rahr in north Dakota so I have access to some good grains. Some day, when the kids are grown and gone...

American IPA Sierra Nevada Celebration Clone 2013

Just bottled my batch last night, FG came in at 1.019. I mashed higher than I wanted too but I think it's gonna turn out nice!

American Wheat Beer American Wheat Beer - 2nd place Best of show - 2011 HBT BJCP competition

Just bottled this, had an FG of 1.004...I used wyeast 1056 instead and hit the OG of 1.050. Flavor was good, almost-cracker-ey? Still figuring out this AG brewing.

Brewing on bottle day, use same yeast

One question-for the people that do this, do you clean your fermenter at all before adding your next batch on the old yeast? For example, do you wipe out the old krausen layer or the sides at all or is it best to just leave everything as it was in the fermenter?

American Pale Ale Da Yooper's House Pale Ale

This was my first AG brew and after 4 weeks in the fermenter and only 10 days in the bottle its delicious! Absolutely no "extract twang" (duh I guess). It was an interesting first all grain brew but I'm very happy with the end result. Definitely makes all the work of brewing worth it.

Testing stove boiling power for first all-grain

I use a hot rod heat stick from brewhardware.com on my stovetop. It works great and I would highly recommended it to anyone brewing in a kitchen. I had a 20amp outlet close by so I use a 2000 watt element and it's certainly sped things up!

Reflections on a first All Grain brew day

Thanks for the tips/kind words. A few more things to mention per your comments: I used only store bought spring water-ph unknown. I have a ground well in my yard and rural water(probably similar to average town water) in the house that runs through a water softener. Our water is very hard...

Reflections on a first All Grain brew day

I brewed my first all grain batch sunday morning (5-29) and I was eager with excitement to step into this next phase of brewing. Having done extract kits and a partial mash for about a year I was ready to move on with this...(obsession). I chose to do "Yoopers Haus Pale Ale" OG 1.058 and...

Need advice on upgrading to electric kettle for partial mash/BIAB

Is it a problem if the BIAB bag sits on the heating element? Do you need a faux false bottom to prevent any scorching or melting to the bag or grain?

Need advice on upgrading to electric kettle for partial mash/BIAB

Do you think a heating element is better than a blichman boil coil? I like the ability to unplug from the pot but it's about triple the cost.

Need advice on upgrading to electric kettle for partial mash/BIAB

Hi all, I'm looking to upgrade from my 6g kettle to a 10g and I want to get into partial mash and BIAB brewing (currently learning on extract kits). A well built kettle with an electric element seems like the best way for me to go since I live in northern Minnesota and I don't want to boil wort...

    4 weeks primary-secondary necessary??

So I brewed the Midwest Supplies "Redheaded Ryeish Ale" kit and the recipe directions say 7-14 days primary, then rack to secondary for 3 weeks. Now its been in the primary bucket for 4 weeks and I am wondering if there is any benefit to a secondary for ageing this or would I receive just as...
