Big Mouth Bubblers - are they fixed yet?

I have two plastic 6.5 gallon big mouth bubblers. One has a spigot the other does not. They both work very well and haven't posed any issues at all. Highly recommend them!

    What are you drinking now?

Sierra Nevada Beer Camp Tropical IPA. The first couple I had of this beer, I thought it was just okay. Now I love it. Too bad it's a seasonal. I would love to find a recipe close to it.

    Bottle conditioning ?

I usually start enjoying them after a week. I only probably have 3-4 during this time but so far, they have been good to go. My last brew I actually opened up after 3 1/2 days and it was carbonated just fine. I know that's a bit early but who cares... it's my beer. :D

    Same taste in my beers

Yes, I do this before pitching the yeast by rocking the wort back and forth vigorously. However, maybe I should do it longer than what I currently do. As for oxidizing the beer before bottling... I was under the impression that you weren't suppose to do that. Once I have the beer in my...

    Same taste in my beers

If it's just a burnt flavor that you get then why do most people seem to say that adding the extract near (or at) the end of the boil is probably the best way to avoid the twang? This isn't meant as a challenge to what you are saying but just curious as I am trying to get this all figured out...

    Same taste in my beers

I have four batches of brew under my belt (all extract). After the first beer, I noticed something that just didn't taste quite right. I was really disappointed with my second brew to find it present again. My third had it as well but not as pronounced, probably because it had higher alcohol...

    Same taste in my beers

Very interesting. I'll have to give this a shot because I've got to get rid of the twang and would rather not go AG, at least for now. Out of curiosity, why do you add .5 of water/extract at the beginning rather than just adding it all after flame out?

    Same taste in my beers

How much water do you use when mixing it with the extract beforehand? How much water is in your pot? This sounds very interesting. I'm going to brew this week and would like to try this to see if I can get rid of that darn twang!

    Same taste in my beers

I started a thread a couple of weeks ago that seems very similar. I'm on my third batch (extract) and have a flavor that is consistent with each beer. It is less noticeable with my double ipa. It is frustrating because while others like the beer, the flavor ruins it for me. It's not that bad...

How much vanilla for a vanilla porter?

The beans that I believe I'm going to buy are these... If I only use two of them, how can I save the rest of the beans? Do they freeze okay?

How much vanilla for a vanilla porter?

Instead of starting a new thread, I thought I would resurrect this one. I want to use vanilla beans in my stout that has been in the primary for about two 1/2 weeks. Just a few questions before doing this... 1. I get splitting the beans down the middle but what is this about scraping? 2. Do...

    Off Flavors?

When I get home from work, I'm going to open up a bottle (while my palate is nice and fresh) and try one. If I continue to have some that taste okay and others that don't, then I would think there must be something that I'm doing or not doing in the way of bottle sanitization. I just don't...

    Off Flavors?

Very interesting read. This could be it, but why would it only be in some of my bottles of brew and not in others? That doesn't seem quite right - it ought to be in all I would think if this is something characteristic of DME itself.

    Off Flavors?

I'm not sure how to clean them better than I am. Once I finish drinking a beer, I wash it out thoroughly with water and then let it sit to dry. Before bottling, I then run it through the dishwasher to sanitize (just using hot water). Then I sanitize using Starsan. The caps sit in a bowl of...

    Off Flavors?

Maybe Medicinal but I'm really not sure. As best as I can describe it's not a powerful off-flavor but just a hint of skunyness perhaps and maybe a touch of spice.

    Off Flavors?

I bottled my second batch of brew a couple of weeks ago. It was a clone Sierra Nevada extract kit from NB. That being the case, I decided a couple days ago to try some. It was very good so I had another. The next night I had a third from the batch. All three tasted about the same and were...

    Bottle Capping

I just started brewing a couple months ago. I was going to get one as I'm all about making brewing as efficient and effective as possible. However, after reading a lot of reviews I decided to stay with my wing capper.

    Bottle Capping

I have a wing capper and used it for my last two batches without any problems until opening the Stella bottle last night. All other brews so far have sealed just fine. Why would a bench capper have any different results? Also, what problem are you referring to - the Stella bottle issue or what...

    Bottle Capping

I sure hope sierra nevada bottles are okay because I have two cases of them waiting for my next brew.
