Can I ginger up my kit brew?

OK here I go. At primary I added about 1lb of ginger at flameout. It has been sittin gin primary for about 3 months and on Saturday I am going to transfer to secondary and chuck in another 2lbs of fresh grated ginger (probably boil for few minutes to kill any bacteria or maybe not). I know it's...

    Should I lager or not?

And this is why I love brewing! It seems almost difficult to ruin a brew once everything is clean.

    Getting chocolate into my stout.

Hey hey, Just a follow up here. I am terribly lazy. I left my stout in primary until about 6 weeks ago (yes, 7 months in primary) then chucked in about 250g of bakers cocoa disolved (mostly) in water (still in primary) and just got around to bottling it last weekend. I had a little taste...

    Should I lager or not?

Hey, I have a dedicated fridge but I'm not sure how accurate the thermostat is - I'm guessing it is around 2-3 degrees celcius. Does it need to be more precise than this?

    Should I lager or not?

Hi guys, Big thanks for the info here. I decided to put down two batches of ale instead (one with grated ginger and one plain) and keep the "lager" for later. I reckon I'll treat the lager as a regular ale kit except that once it has bottle conditioned for a few weeks I might stick it in a...

    Should I lager or not?

Howdy, Just about to stick on an extract kit (Muntens Gold Continental Pilsner) and I thought it was a lager but the instructions say to place in a warm area for primary fermentation then afer bottling to place in a warm area again for 2 days before moving to a cool place for at least 21...

Can I ginger up my kit brew?

Howdy, I want to make a ginger beer using a blonde beer extract kit. What I am thinking of doing is grating some ginger and adding to the brew at some point but have a couple of questions - any ideas or tips much appreciated! 1. Is this even possible or am I going to destroy my nice blonde...

    Getting chocolate into my stout.

Deadly! Thanks a mill guys. Didn't realise that chocolate extract was just that syrupy stuff. I have now decided to lash 3/4 ounce of that into the secondary and rack on top of it. Huzzah!!

    Getting chocolate into my stout.

Hey, Thanks a lot for the replies guys. Since it's already in primary I'm probably going to grate a half pound of extra dark chocolate and syphone the brew on top of it for the secondary. Or maybe sprinkle it on top of secondary once it is syphoned in. Will let you know how successful (or...

    Getting chocolate into my stout.

Hi all, I've had a busy weekend - bottled my blonde beer (after letting it sit for 6 months in it's own trub.... should be interesting) and put two extract batches of stout into primary. Now, what I'd like to do is make one of them into a chocolate stout and I'm guessing that this means I'll...

    Expiry date of my beer?

Hi all, I have Wheat Beer in bottles 9 weeks, IPA in bottles 4 weeks and Stout in bottles 2 weeks. I also have a blonde beer in primary. Just wondering how long my beers will stay good in bottles? I know it isn't a problem most people have to deal with!! I work away from my home during the...

Did I do the right thing?

Hi, thanks Coastarine. If it is still 1.017 on Monday do you reckon I should just go and bottle it? Am I putting myself at risk of bottle bombs? Also, I have my sugar soln in the pot still and it has cooled (obviously I was overconfident that this was bottling day!) - will this keep for a...

Did I do the right thing?

Hey, Just went to bottle an IPA from extract kit. Has been sitting in primary for four weeks. After sterilising my gear I then decided to check the gravity (arseways I know) only to find out it was at 1.017. Fek! Temp was a fairly constant 18 degrees celcius but can't say for sure as I was...

    Strange Stout Extract Instructions.

Hi there, I'm going to start a Stout extract brew at the weekend. I read the instructions last night and they were a bit odd. A few things jumped out even to me - 1) It said to bottle after 4-6 days in primary 2) Instead of syphoning into the bottling bucket on top of the sugar solution it...

Thanks! (And a question for good measure)

Great stuff - thanks guys! I have a one piece so I guess it'll be a bit of trial and error and MacGyver efforts to get it up and running. All part of the fun I suppose!

Thanks! (And a question for good measure)

Hey! Last night I was having a few beers with my brother (500ml Tyskies - great bottles!) and I stuck a bottle of my first brew in the fridge. I only bottled it two weeks ago so I wasn't expecting much but it was lovely! Wheat beer, slightly carbonated and no head to speak of but definitely...

    First beer... catastrophic?

LOL. I could feel your panic as I read that thread. It is possible that the fermentation had pretty much finished going by your FG. Hopefully that is the case. I'm only a beginner myself but from what I have read it is very hard to destroy your beer. I have just started my second ever brew and I...

    Galway Calling

Hi again! Completely forgot about this thread and just checked back on now. Thanks for the welcomes! Nursing a hangover at the moment and would absolutely murder a big bottle of cold cidona and a few packs of Tayto salt and vinegar. Actually, that is nearly enough to get me out of bed. But not...

    Couple of Water Questions

Hey. Thanks chief. So far I've been adding O2 by adding my cold water from a height (extract brewing). That seems to be working fine but not sure it is enough to combat boiled water.
