    5gal Water bottles as carboys?

    Used one once, beer was "funky". They do make superb grain mill hoppers though. Cut the bottom off, turn upside down, voila.

    grain storage

    A 60 litre (15.85USG) bucket is the perfect size for a 25kg (near enough 50lb) sack of malt. Regards, Dave.

    Cooler mash tun sizing

    I'm in the UK so forgive the use of kilos and litres but it makes life SOO much easier in situations like this... As a general rule, 1kg of grain takes up 1 litre of space. Its actually a fraction more when mashing due to absorbtion but its very slight it doesn't really make a fat lot of...

    Magnetic Stirrer

    Hi, I'm new to these forums so be gentle ;) Unless using dried yeast, I always use a stir-plate with my starters. IME, to get maximum yeast growth you need continuous stirring AND continuous oxygenation. Using the stir-plate alone does yield more yeast but does not seem to reduce the time...
