    dirty, dirty, dirty...... yiikes....

I'll be honest with you, I frequently only clean my stuff with hot water and a new sponge. If the b-brite is handy, I might use it, but in reality, maybe 20% of the time do I ever use more than just hot water. I have starsan too but maybe used an oz since I bought the bottle years ago. Never...

Defective Hydrometer results in Tasty IPA!

So I usually never take a hydro reading, but for some reason I decided to with my last batch of IPA about 2 months ago. It read really low. It should have been around 1.060 and was around 1.045. So what did I do? I just dumped "about" a pound and a 1/2 of corn sugar that I had laying around for...

    Dusted off the old carboy...

I hate to waste time and risk infection with a secondary since I came to the realization that it is pretty much a total waste of time, but I was 1/2 way through a batch of Farmhouse ale when I realized that my 2 spare fermentors were in use for 2 batches of wine. So I had no choice but to move...

    wow! Help me out here!

So I just freed up a chest freezer that I am going to turn into a keezer. I'd like to put at least 4 taps on the counter-top of the bar. I want to use one of those T type of towers. But they are FRIGGIN expensive! And for the ridiculous price, they don't even include Perlick taps. So I am...

    Well, well, well!

I was checked my SG/OG and it was WAY off. So I knew everything was right so I just said, "Oh well" and sealed up the fermentor. Then I mixed the 2nd batch and got an even lower reading. Like 1.060 when it should have been upwards of 1.080. I had another hydrometer so I used that one and low and...

    Pon, pon, pon...

I went to pull a pint of my Farmhouse Ale and it almost immediately kicked. Damn. So I went to pull a pint instead of my Blue Moon clone, that kicked too. Damn. I guess it's Sam Adams or wine. The good news is I have a full keg of very high gravity IPA ready to swap in. Just need 2 wait a few...

Help me find the right *cough* white wine!

First off, let me start by stating THIS IS NOT FOR ME! I swear on a stack of phone books! This is for my wife..... She likes a Chardonnay type wine but dry and no oakiness. What kit might produce this? I am looking for any relatively dry white wine so any type of grape would be ok! Help!

    Need advice on Keezer build

I am going to use my 7 cf chest freezer as a refrigerator for my beer kegs. I don't want to call it a keezer since I am only interested in keeping the kegs cold and not dispensing any beer from a collar on the keezer. My plan is to put this in a closet next to my bar and run the beer lines from...

The IPA That Just Won't DIE!

I have my latest Blue Moon Extract clone at the ready and I am Jonesin' to try it! But the GD IPA just WON'T die! It seems like a bottomless keg! It might be time to convert to a keezer. This 2 keg capacity is just not working for me!

    Carbonation in the closet question...

Background: I got another regulator and 5lb CO2 bottle so that I can carbonate beer in the closet while the kegerator is full. I put a beer keg under pressure in the closet at serving pressure. I expect it will fully carbonate in a week or so. It won't go in the kegerator for another month...

Need help with a question about homebrew!

Q: What is better than Homebrew? A: Homebrew AND smoked Rib-eyes!
  14. Slipgate

    You know what?

I have a spare 5lb CO2 cylinder. I commonly have 1-2 full kegs sitting in the closet waiting for keg space. So why not just get a single keg regulator and put these on the gas for 2 weeks to get them carb'd up and ready to go? Where can I get just a single keg regulator with just one air line...

    Dang! Need your help!

Where can I find a stainless steel 40 quart pot for a decent price? I was looking on Amazon and they are quite pricey! No lid needed!

Comedy of F-ups - how bad did I screw up??

Well today was not a great brewing day. I got a late start which threw off my whole rhythm. I made an IPA and my Blue Moon (BM) Clone. The first f-up was I got 4 3.3lb cans of LME, 2 wheat and 2 regular. I spaced which pot was which for a second and dumped the first can of wheat into the IPA...

    The Perfect Pour

When I go to pull a pint of beer, if I just let loose on the tap, the glass ends up around 3/4 or more foam. BUT, if I dump a quick squirt (turn on and off), literally the first inch of foam that comes out, the pour is perfect. Not sure why, but I recommend this method. You only lose a medicine...

    bottling is to kegging as.......

bottling is to kegging as air cooling is to a wort chiller! Wow! I just invested $85 in a wort chiller and now instead of waiting 3-4 hours to get down to pitching temp, it took like 10 minutes! I don't know why I didn't get one of these sooner. A friend and I were brewing this weekend...

    Blue Moon Clone Extract Recipe

I have slowly been perfecting this recipe. It started from something I got on these boards so I want to give credit to the board. It is very good and people that try it say it is better then Blue Moon. At my last party, I had over 4 gallons in the keg, and ALL of it went at the party. This is...

darnit - jumped the gun... what would you do?

I kegged two brews yesterday after 10 days in the primary. An IPA and a Blue Moon clone. The IPA was ready so no problems, but when I cracked the top on the BM clone, it was obvious it was actively fermenting - the top was one big bubble field. So I racked it to a keg anyway and have it sitting...
