Specialty IPA: Black IPA Black Shadow - Cascadian Dark Ale aka Black IPA

Brewing this again tomorrow. Adapted the recipe slightly as ive found it finished a bit high the last 2 times i brewed it so hopefully a lower mash temp and a bit less crystal will combat that. Looking forward to it being in my christmas line up as i havent brewed it in a while

    WLP616 funky cider blend log

I just bottles my first demi john a few weeks ago. Sampled a small drop, good flavour, slightly funky, not much sourness. Just waiting for it to carb up so i can give a proper evaluation. Topped the demi john up with more AJ and the fermentation had a funkier smell to it so hoping the 2nd gen...

Doesnt bramling cross give a flavour of berries!?!? How long did you boil and at what time did you add the bittering addition?

    WLP616 funky cider blend log

Yeah mines still bubbling quite a lot, as in bubbles in solution but seems to be slowly clearing out. No pelicile at the moment. Interested to see what the difference is on the second generation. Might be a bit impatient with 1 demi john to see how it tastes young too

    WLP616 funky cider blend log

I got a batch on on Saturday using 616, fermentation was visible very quickly and then went nuts yesterday. Yeast head had subsided but is bubbling like nothing I've seen before. Looking forward to this 1. How long are you planning on leaving it to age?

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewing a porter tomorrow with a small amount of smoked malt in the grist to see if i can replicate the flavour of when malt was kilned over open fires. Only 1% in 25L but its a starting point, nothing to over powering. Going to mature this a long time

5L mini keg with Tap - how long does it last?

The mini keg has the tap at the top and the easy has the tap on the bottom. My set up is in the link. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/easy-kegs-and-mini-kegs.html

Is it done? Should I bottle?

When the gravity is stable across 3 days your beer should be done. As its lost a point per day, the yeast are still happy chomping on the sugars. You dont want to risk bottle bombs with packaging too early. Time is good for stouts anyway. You may have a lot of unfermentables in your beer so its...

    Stout help

5 days is too early to make any decision. Leave it 3-4 weeks, taste it at bottling or kegging and make your decision then. Theres loads of bi products from fermentation still in the beer. It should clean up. Once packaged, leave it a few months again for the flavours to develop and blend. I...

5L mini keg with Tap - how long does it last?

I have a store bought 1 and 1 from my LHBS. I wrote an article on this https://www.homebrewtalk.com/easy-kegs-and-mini-kegs.html They last 3 or 4 days. Every pour sucks air in through the top so you start to oxidise your beer from the last pour. You can pour the first few without the top open...

Issues with Kegging and Taste (Help Please)

Can you see bubbles in your beer lines when you pour? Does it pour slightly frothy too? You could have air being sucked in from a hole in the line, a jubilee clip not tight enough, damaged QD (easily done and difficult to spot), damaged rubber on the beer out or dip tube? If it was oxidation...

Intertap Flow Control Faucet -- Question

That is correct. If you take it apart and watch how the control works you see that the control is fully engaged in either position up or down and fully open when level with the tap On a side, i did read that the spring will not fit/work with the FC model. Have you managed to fit it and get it...

    Sugar while prime? :(

Ive always primed the mini kegs with half the recommended amount for bottling. Anywhere between 10-15g for the keg depending on style and ive had no issues with carbonation. Advice was found on here and other forums. Definitely dont put the normal amount in otherwise youll end up buckling your kegs

    Carapils /dextrine not bringing much
