BIAB low efficiency - Grain Milling

I can't believe I haven't thought to do that. My LHBS can't change the grind setting so they run it through twice which helps. My efficiency always good (around 75%) but could always be better!

Designing my first BIAB brew -> baffled

Your enthusiasm is great! I still get that enthused about every new brew. I taste at every step of the process just for fun. Enjoy!

You know you're a home brewer when?

When you rearrange your beer fridge to hide your few remaining home brews from your neighbors behind some decoy commercial beers.

You know you're a home brewer when?

Wife says "You're brewing beer AGAIN?" I say "Nope, just feeding my yeast!"

An entire propane tank on a single brew?

Yes, you must have gotten shorted. 4-5 brews of 5 gal batches here. Always refill when you can, the exchanges always short filled. Wind screen and flashing have really helped me! I don't have a Bayou, but the flashing I put on mine helps keeps the flame focused on the bottom of the pot.

    American Imperial Stout

Man I can't wait to have that kind of patience... Is that an oxymoron?

That, sir, is what I've unintentionally and involuntarily learned to do!

    Kettle or Mash Tun Cozy

So... more important to maintain mash temp than stir grains? No recirculator. My thermometer is center mounted so my thought was it gives a good average temp of the mass. I always stir water while getting to stike temp to help get accurate.

    Getting Drunk

May not be exactly what you're asking, but one thing I notice about my homebrew is my higher ABV brews (higher than their commercial comparators, not big beers) have a more pleasant alcohol flavor even with higher alcohol. I guess what I'm saying is my alcohol tastes way better than the alcohol...

Can I use a large mason jar for yeast harvesting?

Success! The KitchenAid in the pic just next to the stir plate so reminds me of my space! I've been washing my yeast lately, but the two recent batches I did from straight slurry did great. I think the only reason I bother washing is for the looks of it. People are always reaching in my...

16qt Kettle, 5.5gal Buckets - how much exactly?

What you're planning can and has been done, I have done it that way before. Many will frown on topping off fermenter. My quality went up when I moved out of the kitchen to full volume boils, but I can't pin it just on that. You will be at the max of your pots for sure, but it's doable. I...

    Thick Layer of Protein?

You said this was the clearest beer yet. Is this the first time you used the whirfloc?

    Squeezing the Bag

I once accidentally let mash temp get over 165, but it was after 30 minutes. A couple neighbors thought it was my best brew ever.

    Kettle or Mash Tun Cozy

It may be. I give it a good stir at beginning and usually small stirs twice during so that must be it.

    Kettle or Mash Tun Cozy

I've had iodine in my bin for quite some time, but never used it. I think maybe just stuck on tradition? It's now on my to-do list!

    Kettle or Mash Tun Cozy

My heat loss has been significant, the best (without burner, with sleeping bag) was 4 degrees/hour. Maybe because it's aluminum? Are y'all SS?
