    Lme boil

Depends on the IBUs you desire. Timing of extract addition changes the IBU rating. Add it early and the IBUs generally go down. Add it later and there will be more bitterness. I would recommend adding it for at least ten minutes of the boil to ensure that it is sanitized prior to fermenting...

    DC Group Buy #17

Spreadsheet says Nov 15 is the pickup. Is that a typo?

DME, Nor Cal had a good sale a while back and it was conveniently packaged in 3# bags.

Internal vs External Temp: Fermentation Running Hot

Great! Thanks! Well I left the brew bubbling away and when I got home +24 hours from pitching and the Krause has dropped, temp has drifted to ambient, and there is no activity. I'm at a complete loss for this "easy brew" I set up for myself!

Internal vs External Temp: Fermentation Running Hot

Thanks all! I ferment in the coolest part of the basement and did not see this happen last year. I must not have been paying attention. Now to find a cooler big enough to fit a big mouth bubbler!

Internal vs External Temp: Fermentation Running Hot

For the past two brews (pumpkin porter and APA) using 1076 and Wyeast Scottish Ale 1728, I have noticed that the fermenter is running hot. My fermentation closet is stable around ~68F and I use a starter from slurry as my yeast. About 3 hours after pitching I start getting good fermentation...

    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

Bottled 2.5 gallons for giveaways and legged 2.5 for myself. My most requested brew.

Buying (which?) Extracts in Bulk, and remain recipe-flexible?

I buy golden light in bulk and brew everything from golden ales to coffee stouts. Steeping grains give you the flexibility to do so.

Golden Light DME $2.67 per LB!!!! Uhhh YEAH!

I am looking at getting some. Has anyone on here bought from here and can speak on quality of packaging?

What are my electric brewing options?

I am looking to do the same but for extract because of time issues. Blichmann 10 gallon pot with Boil Coil on my stove. Why do you say you do not trust 5 gallons of beer on a glass stove?

    Peristaltic pumps

I have been toying around with the idea of a Peristaltic pump and was wondering if oxygen exposure would be a concern when transferring from fermentor to keg. Thanks!

    Simple Yeast Storage Procedure

Just kegged my APA with the 2nd use of a 1056 strain and found that I messed up my temperature control during fermentation because I have some crazy banana esters. I harvested the yeast in hopes of using it again. Is this wise? Since the yeast put out a lot of esters have they changed so they...

Clone Beer Founder's Breakfast Stout Clone

I pitched enough slurry based on my calculations. I'm more worried about how the how the carboy looks stratified between wort (top) and grains. It's confusing to me because it looks like the carboy is half full of grain/slurry and only has about a gallon of wort on top. It was not such a sludge...

Clone Beer Founder's Breakfast Stout Clone

48 hours into my BYO extract version and I am worried. Fermenter looks like this: I had a tough brew because the bag holding the specialty grains broke and some of them went into the wort. Not much though. When I transferred to carboy I had some problems because the tube from the auto...

    Simple Yeast Storage Procedure

My pumpkin just finished bubbling and I used my one month old slurry. Based on the recommendations in several of the pumpkin recipe threads to use two packets of yeast, I added an extra packet of US-05 to my wort on top of the slurry. It bumbled nice for 5 days. I do not know if it is...
