    Help with store bought juice

Hi, I started a couple batches (2.5 gal each) just before the holidays. My normal cider place was closed so I bought 5 gallons from a local grocery store. The only extra ingredient was something that was supposed to preserve flavor... it was not the typical potassium sulfate or sodium...

    How to kill yeast?

Hi. I’ve made a few batches of cider and got pretty good at stovetop pasteurization to get semi sweet carbonated cider. Now I have a keg system and plan to get the cider to the proper sweetness before kegging. Then carbonate in the keg, vs letting the yeast do the carbonating… Problem is, I need...

Just wanted to check my plan with y'all. I use 1 liter bottles with flip tops. I plan to ferment for whatever time...

    Back Sweeten & Kill Yeast?

Hi, I've read a couple of threads recently where people ask if they can back sweeten with store bought apple juice. Didn't want to hijack any threads with my question, so here's a new post. My first batch is aging currently and I've taken a few samples over the past 3 weeks. Not sure I'm...

    Will my bottles explode?

Hi, I'm mid-ferment right now and am planning to bottle my two gallons of cider into 8 one liter bottles when the time comes. I did not add any sugar to the cider and just plan to let it ferment as is for about 4 weeks. Assuming the bubbling stops or slows to almost nothing, I will rack...

    Racking into plastic storage jugs?

Hi, My dad made wine and cider when I was a kid so I don't remember much other than the glass airlock bubbling away under the stairs in the basement :) I tried to homebrew a few batches of beer about 15 years ago, but didn't have good luck. Now with all of the hard cider products on the...
