    Are plastic caps reusable?

I haven't been doing it long but 3 batches so far and the lids are fine. I suspect there will be a time when they cant hold too high a pressure but I think it will be gradual if you notice a batch is less fizzy than the batch before get new lids. Alternatively the trick I use for plastic milk...

Using fizz keepers, pump bottle tops for bottled beers ?

I currently bottle my brew into plastic 2 litre fizzy water bottles. And they are fine and so far have no trouble holding the carbonation. They are also really handy for testing when they are fully carbonated. The thing is on the occasional night where I dont want all 2 litres by the next day...

My experiences so far, and wheat malt extract questions

At the moment I am just using the yeast that comes in the kit. I switched 1 pound of the sugar to honey because both batches so far have a slight taste which could just about be described as cidery. It seems like an real art at the moment so I am trying to swap one thing at a time so I know...

My experiences so far, and wheat malt extract questions

Cheers for the link very handy, good to see berliner mentioned seperately. Its the berliner weisse that I am after in the long run, like paulaner. Obviously I plan to move on from the kits at some point but I am just starting my 3rd brew so want to get the hang of the process while still...

My experiences so far, and wheat malt extract questions

Thanks for your advice guys I am feeling my way through at this stage, does anyone know of any significantly higher than 50/50 ? If I replace all the sugar with say 80%, that would probably do. Why are the kits and premixed so low when proper weissbiers are more like 60% or 70% ? I guess its...

My experiences so far, and wheat malt extract questions

Thanks to some excellent advice on this forum I am now just starting to drink my second batch of weissbier :mug: First batch was Muntons Wheat Beer. It turned out ok, I was pretty happy. It didnt carbonate as much as I would have liked and it just didnt seem quite what I was after. Still nice...

    Sterilizing freshly emptied bottles.

cool, I will empty, rinse and fill each one at a time to limit any time that air is in them. Obviously next time round I will sterilize them although hopefully I will have got through some beer bottles by then. Anyone got a good use for 40 pints of fizzy water :) Seems a waste pouring it...

    Sterilizing freshly emptied bottles.

For my bottles I have picked up some cheap plastic 'fizzy pop' style bottles new which currently contain carbonated water. Given that I will be pouring them down the sink, quick rinse and filling directly with my brew, do I really need to sterilize them ? I assume they would already have been...

    Using plastic fizzy water bottles

brilliant, thanks. More reading up needed then :) Gives me time to stock up on bottles as well.

    Using plastic fizzy water bottles

drinking 2 litres once open shouldnt be a problem :) Did you do anything about the seal or was it ok as it was ? How many times did you re-use the bottle ? This first batch will probably get drunk pretty quick so long term seal isnt that important. About a month would be fine.

    Using plastic fizzy water bottles

Not many people buy beer in bottles round my way. I am quite freindly with my local pub so i will ask but I dont think I have ever seen anyone order anything other than draught or shorts. My kit says I should bottle after 4-6 days, should I leave it longer ?

    Using plastic fizzy water bottles

Cheers for your replies. Yes I am basically talking about plastic sparkling water bottles. Fizzy pop. Like 2L coke bottles but the plastic is thinner. I would hope the cling film would help the seal but dont really know what kind of pressure develops. My thinking is that tonic and soda water...
