    Extremely High Boil-Off %

My boiloff rate in my 10 gallon Sams club stock pot (~18" wide) is around 2 gallons an hour as well with a ~75k btu burner. -Steve

    Graff (Malty, slightly hopped cider)

I brewed my umpteenth batch of this the other day using Amarillo hops, 8 oz of lactose to backsweeten, and a starter of Belgian Abbey yeast to try and throw some estery/fruity flavors into the mix. Everyone always loves this stuff no matter what I make it with lol. :D I basically have a...

    Strong Bitter Common Room ESB

Brewed this a couple weeks ago using all Fuggles and S04, it's going to sit a while longer and then its going straight into the kegerator. :D

Another is this a infection thread :(

Just looks like yeast settled out on that ring/ridge in the better bottle. Go ahead and rack it into a keg. Once you cold crash it, everything will drop to the bottom. The first pint or two might be a little cloudy/have some hop debris but after that you should be good to go. -Steve

    Is this grain crush ok?

That doesn't look crushed hardly at all IMO. I set my barley crusher as tight as it will go, grain condition, and it is nothing but flour and whole smashed husks. I use plenty of rice hulls in every batch because I have had a few stuck sparges...:p -Steve

American IPA Bell's Two Hearted Ale Clone (close as they come)

I've made several batches of this and it is very close to the real Two Hearted. I love how simple it is! I can't manage to keep a keg of this around very long, my friends always demolish it! :rockin: Brewed a batch of this last weekend as a matter of fact. -Steve

    Powder Coating Stand Questions...

Powder coat will burn off if you get it too hot. (i.e. hitting it with a burner flame and the nearby areas). If you want to keep it coated you might consider a ceramic coat from Techline for exhaust components. Just google "black satin ceramic coating". It can handle heat up to 2000*, don't...

I was scolded at LHBS today when I told em I don't usually use a secondary

I've gotten increasingly lazy brewing. I used to secondary everything, but eventually I just got annoyed trying to fish the siphon around through that tiny hole and not manage to suck up trub. Nowadays I just let things sit in primary for months until its ready to go into keg, unless I'm...

Anyone tried using forced hot water funance as heat source to HLT?

In daydreams of scale-up for my brewing, I was thinking it would be awesome to just utilize a 60 gallon hot water heater as a HLT with a huge heat exchanger coil in it. -Steve

Building permits for a dedicated brewing room - hints?

In my experience of finishing my basement by myself (or just all the rough-ins) I have found that a couple calls to the inspectors asking questions tends to calm their nerves a bit. Especially if you go in there and ask before you start building/pulling permits. Also, if they come out to...

Classic Style Smoked Beer Rogue Smoke Ale Clone

Well, so far I just kegged this on the 21st so it's basically cold and not carbonated at this point. The smoke flavor is there but on the lighter side. Tentatively I would say that I would put more in the next time I brew this, probably at least go to 2 lbs rauchmalt if you want more than a...

English Porter Black Pearl Porter (AG)

My batch is going into keg tonight after exactly a month in primary. Hydro taster is good and finished around 1.020. I forget but I think I used notty for this one. -Steve

    bulk grain

Yep, I love Midwest. It's only an hour away from me so I can drive up and pick up things in bulk. 35 bucks for a 50# sack of 2-row is a steal. Plus we don't have to pay sales tax in MN because most brewing ingredients are considered food staples (which we don't pay sales tax on here)...

    Amp, gauge, duty cycle recommendations

Great table. My comments were for THHN copper. I agree that the gauge wires are capable of carrying higher amperage, however I don't know any electrical inspector that would let you put a 25A breaker on a circuit with 14/2. ;) :p -Steve

American Amber Ale House Amber (AG & Extract)

Brewed the 25 IBU AG version of this last night. Looking forward to tasting it! :mug: Hit the OG right on the money at 1.060 and everything else went just as smooth. -Steve

Rye of the Storm Smoked RyePA

OG of 1.071, I also subbed in S-05 for the yeast as I didn't get to the supply store in time for anything else and had that on hand. Looking forward to tasting it! :mug: -Steve

Rye of the Storm Smoked RyePA

Brewing this up today, only change I made was adjusting for my AA% hops and I didn't have Magnum so I went with Northern Brewer for the same total IBU. -Steve

    Amp, gauge, duty cycle recommendations

Lets not give someone advice that goes against the National Electric Code. They are very clear that to be code compliant you need 6 gauge wire for a 50A breaker going to a subpanel or outlet. National Electric code says: 14 gauge = 15 amp 12 gauge = 20 amp 10 gauge = 30 amp 8 gauge = 40 amp 6...
