Aging double IPA of bourbon barrel pieces

:rockin: He's been back for a coupe of months now, but his wife said he's been trying new and different beers. I figure while this isn't a Kentucky summer beer, it'll age great and he'll have it for the winter

Aging double IPA of bourbon barrel pieces

Well this batch is going to a friend, a Vet that just got back from overseas, and his birthday is at the end of July. I know it won't be 100% by then, but I'll tell him to throw a bunch in the back of the closet and forget it till Christmas time.

Aging double IPA of bourbon barrel pieces

Well I broke the single stave up (it was about 3ft long by 4in wide by 1/4in thick) and steamed it for 20 minutes to clean it. I pour the left over brown water into the batch as well, for added flavor. If nothing else, this is an experiment to learn how to make this process work :)

Aging double IPA of bourbon barrel pieces

I brewed a batch of double IPA 2 weeks ago and split up the batch last night. I bottled half and put the other half over pieces of bourbon barrel to give it an oak aged/barrel flavor. I've tried to find out via searching, but how long should I leave it over the wood? Since it's about 2.5...

Double IPA, my biggest beer yet

Sheldon, I was just going through my info on here and updating it. I just moved to Kentucky, but maybe we can work something out. Grizzly, that's what I figured. I'll measure out the sugar and I figure if I use about 3/4 of it that I should get the level that I want. Since this is a sipping...

Double IPA, my biggest beer yet

Wow it's been a long time since I've posted on this site, glad to see that it's only grown in the time that I've been away. Life (read: work) has kept me from brewing for almost a year now, but I'm in a new job, in a new place and have hammered out the biggest beer that I've made to date. I...

Ambient air temperature -27 right now.

It's not spo bad here in Northern VA. We are geting our first snow of the season right now actually. It's going to be no more than 3 inches or so, but people here don't know how to deal with it and the roads are a mess already... So I might be leaving work in just a few!!!

    Shipping Beer.

I did a search and that didn't yield any answers to my question. I want to ship out a few bottle of brew as belated X-mas gifts to some friends and family. I was wondering if you can do this and how legal it is. Also, how do you wrap it to ship? I figured just using bubble wrap and telling the...

    killing the growler of DGA

I just had a growler over the weekend, hmmmm I do agree, it does seem a little under hopped. But either why I still like it. If I remember it was like $13 here in the DC area, but everything here is overpriced with our artifically inflated economy...fml

    So I had a keg stolen... :(

i wouldn't go as far to say that one of my friends stole it. My buddy lives in a iffy neighborhood and it could have been one of the hood rats that lives near him... I try to have a little more faith in my fellow man and would like to believe that people who say they are my friend wouldn't do...

    Technique Questions for Partial Brewing

So I made a good attempt on my last batch at trying to do a mini mash. Ater I was fisnished I realized that all of my reading thought me things about what a mash is, what sparging is, all of the little enzymes that are released and things like that. But I never really learned HOW to do a mash...
