    Fermentation chamber setup - Questions...

Hey, thanks for all the suggestions! That ITC-308 looks good. The specs for this fridge can be seen here: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/333411/True-Gdm-45.html so it appears that the amp draw is 10.2 I live in Newport Beach, CA and I wanted the extra space so I could have a 2nd fermenter in...

    Fermentation chamber setup - Questions...

Hello and thanks in advance for any information and/or tips/suggestions you may have... I recently picked up a True GDM-45 model (image attached) refrigerator and plan on using it as a fermentation chamber only. I'm located in Southern California, so I don't think I'll need to add a heating...

What to look for if yeast doesnt appear active...

I brewed up a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale clone on the night of 4/17/08. It's now been just shy of 4 days and I dont see any activity on the airlock. I know that this doesnt necessarily mean the yeast isnt working possibly due to air leaking elsewhere but I want to pop it open and give it a visual...

    white labs

seriously, i did the same thing the other day. i had the yeast in the fridge and i had already started steeping... i just took it out, held it in my hands for a few minutes and shook it around, by the time the wort cooled, the vial was room temp. and guess what, my airlock was bubbling 10 hours...

    Complete N00b

I also agree with Ma2Brew, I bought 2 of those setups and have done 4 batches since I started approx 1 month ago (also bought an extra glass carboy for primary -- it's fun to sneak a peak at what's going on inside the fermenter.) Although Revvy maybe right about where you can get a chiller...

    Safe temperature range?

Hello, Ive brewed a few batches of ales recently and regardless where I store the carboys, it gets pretty warm. I live in Southern California. It's pretty warm, especially lately and it's getting warmer. Unless I crank up the AC all day, i cant get my house much lower than 75. The...

What is this and why? n00b question. [pics]

Hello, Just finished a batch of Hoegaarden Wit and wondering what this is and why it happens. It's like a coagulation of some sort, but I have no clue if it's normal and why... Notice the cloudy layer about 6 inches up off the bottom of the carboy? it goes away, but what is it? is it normal...

When to bottle after secondary fermentation

Hello, After about 12 years of not brewing any beer, I gave it another shot and brewed 2 batches a few weeks ago. primary fermentation started on 03/19/08 and 8 days later after my hydrometer readings stopped changing, i transferred to a secondary carboy for conditioning. It has now been...

    i think i screwed up

Yes, I was supposed to put the flavoring hops in at 30 minutes and I put them in at 42 minutes. (thinking this may compensate for lost hops that came out with the grains at 42 minutes) Then I added the end hops at 2 minutes. Noob question: what are IBU's and judging by the exclamation, im...
