Hop collection/ wort chilling solution for 1BBL setup

The design of your kettle will have a big impact on how you handle your hop load. With pro sized kettles, most will have a dished or slight cone shaped bottom. This is to allow the trub to settle in the bottom while the upper edge of the dish should remain clear, after whirlpooling. You would...

    Michael Jackson Books

The World Guide to Beer and The New World Guide to Beer were very influential, back in the day. Many believe The World Guide to Beer is what started the whole concept of beer styles. He had a TV series: The Beer Hunter, that is very, very good, if you can find any copies of it.

It's freezing out and I'm stuck inside. If you're brewing, post a pic of what you're doing today.

I did brew a Berlinner Weisse yesterday. 50/50 Weyermann Barke Pilsner and Rahr White Wheat. It was a multiple step mash following the guidlines in Eric Warner's "German Wheat Beers" My brew assistant, Rosie, always makes sure the mill is cleaned up after use. The mash went fine and all...

It's freezing out and I'm stuck inside. If you're brewing, post a pic of what you're doing today.

I am brewing tomorrow. Today I just preboiled the water I will use in making a Berliner Weisse. It did not snow much here, but it is rather chilly. -14 F this morning. It is currently a balmy 7 F. I do try to keep a few ingredients on hand so I do not have to run out when I want to brew.

Looking for unmalted roast barley - 500L - English v. Briess; NB lists "malt?"

Brewers Supply Group is owned by Rahr. They distribute Crisp and Simpsons which both offer unmalted roasted barley. The Country Malt Group is owned by Great Western. The distribute Bairds and Fawcetts. Another two British maltsters that offer unmalted roasted barley. It all depends on which...

Fermzilla pressure ferment. Leave butterfly valve open during pressure fermentation or not?

I have no trouble dropping temperature with around 15 PSI on the fermenter. I can do it with as low as 7 PSI without any problems. It does help to have a CO2 tank close by for purging the collection chamber for dry hopping. After you have dropped the temperature, you can make up any pressure...

Fermzilla pressure ferment. Leave butterfly valve open during pressure fermentation or not?

It depends on what pressure you are fermenting at. If you keep the total pressure at 1 bar (15 PSI) or less you should be good. DO NOT close the valve with beer in the collection chamber part way through fermentation. The collection chamber cannot handle pressure above 17 PSI or so. For safety...

    Another 2-row thread

It is rather difficult to find 6 row these days. When you do find it, at a homebrew level, the cost is the same or maybe a bit more the 2 row. There is a difference between maltsters and the different barley they malt. A larger company will usually blend different barley together, sometimes...
