Filter to bottling bucket? (200um mesh)

I use a paint strainer bag on the end of my siphon and it works great to filter out any hop, trub, or other junk in the fermenter. I just started doing this within the last year or so when I stopped using secondaries and didn't like all the extra stuff in my finished beer. Using the paint...

    autosiphon bubbles

When I had a similar problem it was a bad autosiphon. The cane in the center wasn't making a good seal and was allowing air in. My siphon was several years old and had been working fine until one day I just started getting the bubbles. I bought a new one and the problem went away.

How often do you guys brew?

I brew almost like I was doing a reorder for my inventory. So, once I get down to a given amount of beer on hand (usually 12 bottles of a particular brew), I go ahead and brew. That typically ends up working out to brewing about once every 4-6 weeks. On occasion I will fall behind a bit and brew...

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

I know that there are lots of people out there that really like this beer. Could be that I just got a bad sample, but I have been told that I am one of the folks that is considered a supertaster and suspect this is the reason the beer was bad t me. In supertasters, certain flavors are heightened...

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

Brooklyn Sorachi Ace. I had one at the winter Beerfest in Columbus. Of the 35 or so beers that I sampled, it was the only one that I dumped. I can't recall ever opening a beer and then dumping it because it was bad.

Finishing gravity always lower than projected

Cali Ale yeast is a beast and always goes really low for me. Try same recipes with a different yeast and see if it produces something more to your liking. I have used London and European Ale yeasts in my Blondes in place of Cali and it definitely brings up the FG a few points.

    Beersmith Inventory

Thanks, for the response. I'm guessing that I will probably forget as well since I am not really used to doing either. As far as pricing, one of the first things I did before even starting to do my own recipes was to add pricing to all the typical ingredients that I use. It isn't perfect as...

    Beersmith Inventory

Just wondering if any Beersmith users actually use it for tracking and managing their inventory? I have been only using for Recipes and Brew Logs up until now, but have been considering using the inventory tracking.

What do you do with your spent grain

For those of you that use it for your chickens or give to others that have chickens, do you have to dry it first? I have heard people say that the wet grains will spoil rather quickly. I just want to know how soon I have to get it someone with chickens if I want to swap for eggs.

    Columbus, OH group grain buy

To get that pricing does he need a minimum order? What will the lead time be? I travel frequently, so I can only be in on a buy if I know well in advance the pick up date and time. Also would like to know details on how payment will work. Will we pay directly to Buckeye or will we pay to...

    your favorite SMaSH recipe, please!

A 2 row and Cascade Pale ale is my go to SMaSH and my most frequently brewed recipe. I make it about every 3rd batch and will adjust the amounts of each based on how I am feeling and how much of each I have on hand.

    New Kettle Rocking While Heating

Good to know that I am not the only one. If I may ask, how much wort can you get boiling when straddling the two burners?

    New Kettle Rocking While Heating

So, I just recently got a a cooler mash tun and 10 gallon Concord brew kettle in an attempt to step up my methods from partial boil extract with steeping grains to partial mash with a full volume boil (or at least as close as my indoor stove can get me to full boil). So, last weekend I did my...

    Bells suing a small brewer

Here is Bell's Notice of Opposition. http://ttabvue.uspto.gov/ttabvue/ttabvue-91215896-OPP-1.pdf It spells out fairly clearly what Bell's believes. I don't know the law and the whole idea of common law when it comes to trademarks still runs counter to the idea of even having a regeistered...

    Bells suing a small brewer

Absolutely agree that the boycott and the strong statements early in this discussion were way out of line as most of the details were not know and still aren't. We will just have to agree to disagree on the appropriateness of comparison. I definitely don't agree on its appropriateness, but...

    Bells suing a small brewer

Whoa. Moving from a nice civilized (mostly) debate on a subject that seems to be of interest to many of us to a comparison to a rape victim seems like a really insensitive leap. Maybe a different comparison next time might be better. :)
