    Help (re)-finishing Craiglist's bar

I picked up this used bar on Craigslist on the cheap. It appears to be homemade, and maybe 20-30 years old. The bar top is 2" of particle board covered with what I'm assuming is maybe a veneer of sorts (???). It has the look and texture of wood...it is not shiny like laminate. The front of...

Just opened a bottle from my first batch ever

I didn't either!! I thought I was going to take one sip and have to pour the rest down the drain. But the beer was smooth, carbonated, full-bodied, and *still* a great beer, even after 5 years.

Just opened a bottle from my first batch ever

Almost exactly 5 years ago I brewed my first batch ever. The extract version of MoreBeer's Irish Red. I didn't know what the hell I was doing back then. I saved a few bottles of that first batch, though, and opened the first of the 'reserved' bottles today in honor of St. Patrick's Day. I...

Falconer's Flight IPA (yet another recipe critique)

Drinking a pint now. Bumped up the dry hops to 4oz. Extreme citrus nose, nice balance between the bitterness and malt, and the oats add this smooth, creaminess to the mouthfeel. I like it!

Need help choosing first all grain brew recipe

I'd do a SMaSH so you can get used to your equipment/process. My first all grain was a Golden Promise + Amarillo SMaSH. Blew all my extract beers away, and things have only gotten better since.

Falconer's Flight IPA (yet another recipe critique)

I'd like this to be a smooth drinking IPA where the flavor and aroma of the hops, rather than the bitterness, dominate. The naked oats I thought might bring some silky smoothness, but I added just on a whim. The 2oz at flameout I intend to do as more of a hop steep once the wort has...

    Glycerin Stocks

I store my stocks in 2ml cryovials at -80c. When I want to grow stocks, I scrape a pipette tip worth of the solid into 3mls of 10% dry malt extract (100g/L) and shake at 30c/200rpm for 24-36h, basically until turbid. Then I inoculate 50mls of 10% DME at 18c/200rpm for 24h and then inoculate 1...

Lager from a Porter grain bill?

Due to a mess-up on Northern Brewer's part (I ordered uncrushed, they sent crushed - one phone call and they took care of me), I have double the grain I need for their Dry Dock Urca Vanilla Porter clone. I thought I'd use the second set of grain and do something different. Maybe a lager...

Cheap & Easy 10 Gallon Rubbermaid MLT Conversion

I just built one to use as an HLT using the $10 menards 5-gal...used exact same parts as the 10-gallon, except for the SS braid, obviously. Leak free w/ my hottest tap water. I did have to use like 5 or 6 5/8" washers, though - I think the wall of the 5-gal is thinner than the 10-gal.

My Ugly Junk- Corona Mill Station...

I've seen a lot of questions about the thread diameter of the handle bolt for those who want to use a drill, only to see responses to just take the handle bolt to the store and figure it out. I did this, and found the threading type is 8mm-1.25...5/16 coarse" kind of works, but not the best...

My Ugly Junk- Corona Mill Station...

Found some 2-row in the garage. Using a stock Discount Tommy "500" mill, here is my first attempt - no mods whatsoever, just loosened the large wingnut all the way, then re-tightened until I got some resistance when cranking. No intact grains at all in this crush. This look OK?

My Ugly Junk- Corona Mill Station...

How freely should the disc spin? Just received my mill, but no Grain to try it out yet. I tightened down the large wing nut until the disc spins relatively freely, but definetly some resistance on each spin. Just trying to gauge a starting point before I process some grain.
