    Adding Yeast for Bottling

I'm getting ready to do my first lager soon, and though the bottling phase is still a ways off, I'd like to gather some information from the brewfessionals on here. I've gotten two opinions on priming Lagers when bottling. Some people just add sugar (whichever choice), bottle and wait...

    Lets Start up the Hate

Man, I've been looking to brew a bud light and possibly even a Michelob Ultra style beer. I'm SHOCKED at how much I've found people getting bashed on this sight for wanting to brew it. You know, I'm not a fan of Lambics... but I'm not going to hate on people for wanting to brew it. I am...

The Father is on his way

Just purchased the Grainfather today. Did a lot of research on it and can't wait to test it out. I've got about two weeks before I make it back home though. Any tips, suggestions, others who've used it?

    Robo Brew Keg King

Forgive me if this has been asked. I couldn't find anything on here. But has anyone heard of or used the Robobrew? It's very similar to the Grainfather, but half the cost. I've shot them an email to see if they deliver to US.

    BJ's... Not those

Anyone eat at BJ's. I'm not sure how far the chain stretches. I've tried almost all of there beers and I wasn't too impressed with most. BUT, they have a Grand Cru that is delicious. Anyone else had it?? I have a sneaking suspicion it has Brett in it. Anyone tried to remake it?

Very High Attenuation - Belgian Dark Strong

I recently brewed "The Number 8" AG from Northern Brewer. The grain bill was 10lbs of Belgian Pilsner Malt and 1.5 Belgian Cara 45. It also had 2lbs of Brown Candi Sugar and 1lb of Corn Sugar. The recipe called for 1.084 and I got 1.083, so no problems there. The FG though is what get's me...

    River Water Brew

I posted on here a while back about brewing with water taken strait from the Llanno River down in Castel, Tx. I've checked it out, no farms for 60 miles. No fertilizer run off risks or even cattle. I'll be boiling anyway of course. I then thought, why not let it open ferment? And this is...

    Saison/brettanomyces blend

Has anyone tried this yeast yet. I'm getting ready to do a Saison soon and this yeast is a hard canidate. Also, do I need equipment sanctioned for only this style to prevent cross contamination with other beers? Or will a good cleaning of the fermenter when finished be good enough?

    Force Carb Causes Metalic Taste???

I was reading through a post just today and a guy was having problems with a metallic taste and the consensus ended up being a possible overcarb. Can someone please explain this a little more. What causes this? I had a blonde that did this, but over time it went away. Would a filter in line...

One or Two Bottles from keg w/o Beer gun.

Alright, I normally keg everything. But a buddy came down and brewed a Pliny clone with me, and as you can imagine, he wants to try it. I don't have a beer gun, and don't plan on buying one. I bought the Perilick Growler filler and watched a couple of vids and seems legit. Any problems/tips...

    Yeast Starter Overflow.

I have a 2L flask that I make my starters out of. I've made quite a few 1.5L and even one other 2L in that. Never with a problem. Well I did a 2L with WLP001 and the krausen was intense. I kept a good eye on it to ensure the foil didn't come off and it get contaminated. But just wondering...

Hope I didn't kill my Yeast

Can't believe what I just did. I was sanitizing everything and my sanitizing water was probably 145°. That's what comes out of my sink. I threw my Wyeast packet in there just to sanatize the outside and walked off and started doing something else. I came back and the packet was bulging, as...

    Anyone ditch the Vorlauf?

Alright, so I'm watching episode on youtube and there is a part in here where this King guy says he doesn't Vorlauf. Not just for the experiment he's doing, but makes it clear that he doesn't practice it on ANY beer. After he makes his point about not Vorlaufing (something about Lipids) a...

    Water Report Frequency

Is there a standard to water profile reports? How often do they take these? I was looking for a Waco, Tx. water report and the latest one I can find is from 2011. Is this normal. I would imagine there would be a later one because in 2013 we had a boil alert. In other words, boil your water...

    Needing WLP540 / Where??

I have checked all the normal spots, MW, NB, AHB, Morebeer, and NO ONE has this yeast. Morebeer says its seasonal, which if that's the case I'll have to sub it with Wyeast 1762. I was just curious if there is any other online store where I might be able to get it.

    Using a Rftmtr

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when using a Refractometer you do NOT have to adjust for heat. That's the whole point of one because it uses light instead of density. Right??

    Does kettle diameter matter?

I just recently bought a 40qt/10gal pot from Amazon, and there are no issues with it. It has the tri layer bottom and all. I've done two brews so far in it. I was thinking about modifying it with a thermometer and ball valve and the works like you see on the Blichmanns and Megapot. I did...

Equivilant of 1762 Belgian Abby 2

Im looking at getting an all grain kit from Northern Brewer called the Number 8. It's a Belgian Dark Strong Ale, Trappist Style. Has an OG of 1.084 and is a 5 gallon batch. The only yeast option is Wyeast 1762 Belgian Abby 2. I generally prefer White Labs and was wondering if anyone knows...

    Beer lines and Cleaning

I've read a lot of things on cleaning beer lines and I actually follow most of what I've read. But I do have a question and I'd like to see others thoughts. Ok, I understand the spout cleaning and why it needs to be done as it sits on the outside of the keezer. As for the beer line that...

    True from the Spring Brewing

Has anyone here tried brewing from anything like actual spring water, or river water? I don't mean "bottled spring water". I mean from an actual spring in the country. My dad has a place in Llano, TX and the Llano River is beautiful. The pump in his house actually pumps right from the...
