    Nitrogen - anyone using it?

Not to hijack, but something maybe to consider. I went for my first beer gas fill today w/ a 5# tank. They filled & I asked what the mix was, expecting 25% CO2 & 75% N2. They told me pure nitrogen & that they couldn't mix beer gas in a 5# tank. Can only be mixed in a lab for that small of a...

US commercial beers using Maris Otter?

I agree on the delicious factor. My four year old daughter was in the garage while I was brewing Sunday & wanted to know what "that stuff" is. It was a sack of Maris Otter & I asked if she wanted to try a bit. I put some in a container for her to eat & I think she's hooked too. There's room...

So I harvested some fresh hops, now what?

I grow Centennial, Cascades, Chinook, and a few others in northern KY. I dry & use the same amount as I would a commercial. They may have lower AA's, (though I'm not convinced of that) but they haven't been handled very much, which is nice. Can't tell the difference except the hop experience...

    Pilsner with Cascade/Centennial

I've smashed and put fresh cascades into my pilsner as I consumed it in my back yard/ garden. Adds a very nice nose. In any case, it will surely be drinkable if you brew it. Worst case is that you never make it again.

    Sam Adams beer and me...

Sam Adams is the best beer available in a gas station. I give it no further credit.

    Brewer's Freedom possible in Texas...

Might want to read more closely. It says must brew "at least 1000 barrels", not "less than 1000 barrels."

    Vanilla extract addition

I used beans once at the end of the boil and they didn't dissolve. I think you need alcohol to dissolve them. I could be wrong, but I had a lot of beans in my strained hops and BK.

    Vanilla extract addition

I make a vanilla coffee stout in which I use 4 oz. in the secondary. It is very subtle in the finished product, but the coffee flavor and dark malts keep it in the background. I'd start with 2 oz. with a lighter beer or it may over-power. You can always add a small amount to your glass when...

Wife vs Fermentation - She always wins.

Embrace lager season for your next batch. I look forward to brewing lagers, fermenting, & lagering in my frigid basement storage room and I brew more frequently during the winter due the fairly limited time frame. It's also easier on energy.
