    Transporting Homebrew Across State Lines?

I will be moving from Orlando to Pittsburgh this weekend. I have about seven cases of beer that I need to transport. Obviously, I don't want to put it on the moving van so I am planning to take it up in my car with me. Does anyone know if there is any issues with transporting it across state...

    Lager recipies using Ale Yeast

Most of my favorite beers are German lagers. Since I am not equipped for cold fermentation yet what would be a recommendation for an Ale Yeast that give yeast with my Schwartzbier and I have heard that biermuncher uses S-04 for his Oktoberfast brew. Anyone else have any recommendations...

    Turkey Fryer Question

For those of you who use a turkey fryer for brewing do you ever use the fryer for it's intended purpose (frying turkeys)? Just wondering if the oil and turkey would put any off flavors into the wort or if you can get the pot clean enough after frying to brew in. Thanks, Ron

    Boiling Brew Water

This is a pretty basic questions but does everyone boil their brew water? Of course the wort water is boiled but does everyone brew the other few gallons that go in the carboy? I have been using bottled water. Did I miss something pretty basic here?

    Kolsch Room Temp Conditioning?

I am getting ready to brew a Kolsch this weekend. I read the recipe as well as some things on here that recommend a long cold second conditioning period. Two things, I am too impatient to wait two to three months in secondary (unless it is totally necessary) and second, I am in FL and have no...

    Burned LME during boil

If I burned some of my LME on the bottom of the pot during the boil what would it end up tasting like. It is my first brew, a hefeweizen. I tried my first one over the weekend after three weeks in bottles and am pretty disappointed. It could be that it needs to age a bit but I didn't...

Wort in carboy for 24 hrs before pitching

What are the chances of infection if the wort was allowed to sit in a sealed carboy for about 24 hrs before pitching the yeast? I made my starter with some of the LME I used to make the full batch with and it needed some time for the yeasties to get working. Thanks, Ron

    3/4 Gallon through the blow-off!

Sunday night I started my second batch of beer, an Oatmeal Stout. Everything went fine and Monday morning primary fermentation was chugging away. When I came home from work Monday evening I had noticed that the jug I had the blow-off tube going into had overflowed. No big deal. But then I...

Priming Sugar - What's your method?

It seems there are a few schools of thought on how to add the priming sugar before/while bottling: Add the boiled and cooled sugar solution to the bottom of the bottling bucket and whirlpool the brew in. Whirlpool the brew into the bottling bucket and then pour the boiled and cooled...

    .5L German Style Bottles

Does anyone know where I can order .5L German Style bottles from? I am looking for something similar to what a Julius Echter Weiss comes in. I have a nice collection of beer glasses and most of them are .5L and I can't stand pouring 12 oz into a 16oz glass. Thanks, Ron

    So Far, So Good

I have been brewing my first beer, a hefeweizen. It has been in primary for about a week and a half and it looks like fermentation has calmed down quite a bit. I took my first of three hydrometer readings last night and it was 1.013. Pretty close to what it should be. Of course there was...

    Cleaning the blowoff tube

I just took off my blowoff tube and put on the airlock. I am looking at this tube and it is filled with dried yeast, foam and other stuff that blew off. I started running water through it to see what would come out but it didn't do too much. Any tips on cleaning this gunk out? Thanks, Ron

    My First Brew...

I have been lurking here for a couple weeks. My wife bought me a brewing kit for my birthday and I brewed my first batch Sunday and pitched the yeast last night. I took a SG reading right after pitching and it came back at 1.032 @ 64deg. It is a hefeweizen. That seems a bit low (I think the...
