Actually had to let it sit for a few weeks.. The yeast wasn't flocculating, so I kept waiting and waiting. Then I cold crashed for a few days, and finally the yeast dropped. I bottled, waiting a few more weeks, and now it's all good. Tasty!
Lack of head is never good.. Haha!
Unfortunately, I did think about the glassware being a cause. I rinsed well. No dice. It's the beer. Just seems strange that it is somewhat carbonated, but has no head at all. Though it tastes good, it looks terrible..
So it's been 2 weeks later.. Bottles of Caribou Slobber have been sitting in a 70 degree room. This is now 4 weeks of being in the bottle.
Just poured one. Tasted very good.... But NO HEAD.. Agh! It looks exactly like a coca cola. The head fizzes out immediately. Surprisingly it seems to...
Well then maybe I'm not too far off. The wyeast strain says stay between 65-75.. And I'm at 70. I can't imagine the beer will be ruined. Hopefully it comes out ok. Thanks for the advice!
I do have an adhesive strip thermometer on the fermenter right now. Its reading 70. I thought that was more reading the ambient room temp as opposed to the temp inside the fermenter, no?
^ thanks. Going forward I'll certainly look into a swamp cooler setup.
But for this specific batch, let it ride out around 70 degrees room temp? Its on the main floor of our house, so I can't lower the temp much under 70 in the room that it's in. Manly other option would be to move it...
I'm on my 4th brew. The previous 3 I let ferment in my basement. Room temps were in the mid 60's. I live in the northeast and my basement is starting to get pretty cold, so it's now closer to 60 degrees.
I brewed an IPA on Thursday night (it's Saturday monring now), and I figured I'd let...
So I bottle my NB Caribou Slobber a little over two weeks ago. Overall, thought the brew process went well. I used a touch more than the recommended corn sugar (that I calculated on the NB calculator), but not the full 5oz. I gently stirred in the sugar well when I racked to the bottling...
I'm brewing this one right now. Interestingly enough, I spoke with someone who works at Northern Brewer who was adamant on keeping this one in the primary for 10 days or so, and then bottling and letting it condition in the bottle for an extra week or so (so maybe 3-4 weeks in bottle). He said...
Gotcha.. and I did mean 1.015-1.019.. That was the target according to Brewers Best. So I'm a bit below that after 2 weeks. I spoke with a Brewers Best rep today and she sounded a bit concerned about my gravity reading being under their target.. She was wondering if it could be infected. But...
Yes, it was an extract recipe. I'm definitely anxious... But I'm more concerned about a better end product. If I should bottle a week from today, then no problem. Unfortunately it either has to be today or a week from today (due to travel). I guess I'm more concerned about my FG coming in a...
